Dr. Shatha Abbas Bakir, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Bakir for a few years now. She is my primary care physician at the Oxnard VA clinic. She is very busy, straight forward and doesn't spend time with small talk. My review must acknowledge that I was assigned Dr. Bakir through the VA and not as a result of references or research. I trust and appreciate her experience greatly.

My son and I liked Dr. Bakir , an appointment took along time to get but everything went well, I believe she was interested in my sons health and treated him accordingly . We were sorry when she stopped taking his insurance.

I have waited sometimes 2 months to get an appointment. I have waited for over 30 minutes to make an appointment and then disconnected to be told to call back during business hours. The PA was rude to me and made me feel really stupid. When I saw the doctor she treated me like I was a hypochondriac and blown off. They have called me and rescheduled my appointment for a month later because the doctor wouldn't be in that day. I am diabetic. I need my follow ups. I do not recommend this doctor to ANYONE.

I love Dr. Bakir and have had her for a personal physician for over 12 years. However, I can't wait over a month to be seen by my doctor. Last appointment was scheduled over 5 1/2 weeks after my phone call. No further follow-up after lab tests, etc. You have to CALL THEM for your results and good luck getting through!

I was so impressed with Dr. Bakir. She is so easy to talk to and gave me the time to talk about my health concerns. She ordered lab tests and gave me a diet because she wants me to lose weight. This is the first time a doctor has mentioned this issue to me in 20 years. I am extremely obese and she wants to help. I highly recommend her. Beautiful well organized office.

I chose this doctor despite reading the negative reviews here because I had to squeeze an appointment before the end of last year. The wait time was close to an hour in the general area then about another 15 minutes in the exam room. Dr. Bakir was friendly and personable, and spent a lot of time asking and answering questions. Appropriate lab tests were ordered. However, there was minimal follow-up except for some form letters. I needed a note from my doctor stating that I was healthy enough to undergo a medical procedure. I requested this ten days ago with no response. The last three business days I have called every day with someone stating that they will talk to the doctor and call me back. Still, no follow-up. A simple yes, no or appropriate referral is in order if this doctor is not qualified to answer a simple question that you are healthy enough. They're too busy to even delegate to the staff to follow-up, let alone write a note. I wish I would have chosen a more… compassionate and responsible physician. The receptionist acted as if she didn't know what I was talking about even though I have been calling every day and speaking to the same person. This is one of the worst experiences I've had with a doctor's office.

Dr Bakir is a very unprofessional Dr. My first visit she told me i was to young to be a mother , yes I'm young 24 but i have a good career and very blessed with my child, i was not 15 and don't rely on anyone else. I went in for hip and nerve pain (mind you I work for a Dr. and am in the medical field) told me i needed another x-ray...ok so i did so, next visit told me I could do pain mang. but with no diagnosis or results. I know i need an MRI but what do i get a CT of the brain????? Wow second visit .. she bad talks my employer my Dr. and tells me she does not like him due to the hear say about his practice..?? Totally relevant to why ME the patient is there! Oh and the pain mang. Dr. she sent me to was an internal medical Dr. ???? oh and its been 3 weeks and still no dictation nor has my referrals been submitted. Please is u want a good Dr. she is not it!

Bakir was totally wromg, said I had a minor stroke, another doc. said that I had wax in one ear, cleaned it out, and my problems where gone, Doc. bakir have no manners or class.

The staff is rude and don't know what there doing it took 2 weeks to get my mom prescription refilled I don't recommend this doctor

does not follow up with patients properly - I had a bad pap smear and was never notified - found out I had cervical cancer a year later from a real Dr. maybe would have had a year jump start on it - if Dr. Bakir and office staff did their jobs.
