Dr. Shawn Joseph Bird, MD

Probably the WORST experience I've EVER has with any Dr I've ever seen in 48yrs. His bed side manners are nonexistant, in fact they're deplorable. Never in my life has a Dr ever blew me off the way Bird did. To tell me my Neurological Autoimmune disease (CIDP) doesn't cause muscle pain and neither does my neuropathy is basically telling me my pain is fake! I'm literally in pain 24/7 and for him to dismiss it is heartless! Explain my high inflammation bloodwork if I'm in no pain. Basically ignored that question. I felt an odd nervousness from him as well. I felt like he wasn't listening to me at all! then to tell me that I didn't have CIDP after I was diagnosed by 4 other Drs. 1 being another Penn Dr that my neuropathy was caused by too much protein in my blood. when told the neuropathy was there PRIOR to having high protein levels he once again ignored me. when told his colleagues felt differently he basically said well they don't know how to read EMGs. Is he for real?

Is he for real? I felt so… little and ignored and will make sure I share my experience with other patients. I'm happy to know 1 patient already called to switch from Bird to a new dr. since her dr is leaving the practice. Bird basically humiliated me and ignored any concern or questions I had. when asked about the muscle loss, pain, and that l loss of 80lbs in 6 months he changed the subject or said that's for a Rheumatologist to answer! he gave me no treatment plan, no information on what "he thinks" my diagnosis is. Nor did he address any concerns he may have. I left thinking what a huge waste of time waiting 3 months to see him and have absolutely NOTHING accomplished but 3 months wasted. I should have listened to friends who warned me about penns neuro dept and gone to Jefferson. I truly am applaud by Bird. NEVER EVER TELL A PATIENT THEY DON'T FEEL PAIN!!!!

Stated he was able to help me after I faxed all my paper work. He offered no diagnosis or treatment. Very Disappointing.
