Dr. Shereen Salim Al-Rashdan, MD

Just came back from my appointment with Dr Shereen Alrashdan absolutely sobbing, after waiting a month to see anyone here. Dr Shereen started the appointment by telling me she doesn't have much time, that normally intake appointments are 90 minutes but she doesn't have that long, and that she'll tell me not to elaborate on things to save time. The entire appointment felt like I was being rushed and put on the spot, she kept speaking over me and cutting me off while I was talking no matter how brief I tried to be. I didn't feel like I could give a proper answer to any questions because she was constantly trying to rush a response and would always cut me off if I stuttered or paused to think. This was a visit for anxiety and ADHD! I felt completely unaccommodated. Dr Shereen asked very little about ADHD or anxiety symptoms. She was more interested in if I was a drug user or mentally unstable. It felt like most questions were to try and disqualify me from her care. I have 14 years of… medical history for ADHD with various providers, I've been assessed multiple times and have been just about on every medication for it. Dr Shereen wanted yet another psychiatric assessment to prove I actually have the condition. I know my provider sent previous records to DENT, but I don't know if anything was actually received or not because Dr Shereen was too short with me. She told me I am depressed and that she won't prescribe to patients who regularly use cannabis. (This is the same institute that prescribes medical cannabis.) I let her know I wasn't even interested in the typical psychostimulants and can we try something less taxing on the body. She cut me off and didn't want to talk about that, she'd already made up her mind at that point. While Dr Shereen kept cutting me short I tried to explain I am functional on meds and I am depressed because of a dire living situation. Anyone in my living situation would be depressed, I need help getting OUT of the situation. I shared information about my life that is deeply upsetting and embarrassing, and felt absolutely no compassion from this doctor... just judgment. I even pinpointed the exact time things started falling apart was when I lost my healthcare and lost access to medications. I also have a long medical history of chronic joint issues, came to my appointment using multiple prescribed mobility aids and at the end of the assessment Dr Shereen seemed to imply the pain is related to my mental health after asking nothing about my physical condition besides whether I always use a cane. Dr Shereen insisted on only offering antidepressants—one of which I already tried in the past and didn't help me, and the other in the same class as various other medications I've tried and know make me feel worse (as detailed in the pre-visit form). All of my history with various medications was detailed in my pre-visit form... which Dr Shereen seemed to only skim, as many questions I was asked were already answered for her weeks ago. I thought we were short on time? When she noticed I was upset I only sensed more impatience from Dr Shereen. She actually seemed angry with me, handed me a brochure for therapy clinics and rushed me out the door with tears in my eyes. I am already going to therapy soon and came to DENT for a psychiatrist!! What a waste of time this was, and now I'm back to square one looking for a psychiatrist again.

I have met Dr.Al recently , she is soft spoken , calm and polite ( which totally opposite to the revie s I have seen online ) she takes her time listening to you, makes sure to tell explain to you what she thinks is going on with you in terms of diagnosis and how she would approach it via treatment. I would have to say she can be a bit forward ( she tells it to you as it is ) but hey we all need at times a dose of reality check to get us in tune with our own fears and inner enemy. I would strongly recommend her to those who are not looking for pill pushers , and those who are looking for some one to give them an honest straight up medical opinion ( now whether you like it or not that’s a total different issue )
