Dr. Shiva Khalili, MD

So sad that she is gone forever… I would like to have her for my prenatal care again!

I requested for her recently during my prenatal care and so sad that is not here anymore…

Dr. Shiva saw me for my yearly check up. She released me to leave but then randomly pulled me back into the room. She explained to me I could have something called arcuate uterus and that I could have a higher chance of miscarriage. To this, I cried as my dream has always been to be a mom. She proceeded to yell at me for crying and said “WHY are you crying? You aren’t even married or trying to conceive” and had absolutely no grace or empathy. I have refused to go to an OB since and have taken other routes to get checked due to this experience.

Very professional, lively and knowledgable doctor! I remember she was spending time to answer all of my questions and never rushed me. I returned for my 3 rd baby to get her as my provider and unfortunately she is not there anymore!

Her bedside manners are atrocious. I was in the midst of a 4th miscarriage and she essentially wouldn’t talk to me. She yelled at me, called me a liar to her attending. Further, her attending physician was just as awful. When a woman is in the midst of a loss, the correct mannerisms is to apologize for their loss and not question whether or not the woman was ever pregnant to begin with. I was in the office to make sure I had passed all the fetal tissue. I have had an emergency D&C in the past for that reason. The OBGYN who performed it specifically told me that with any miscarriages I should still see my OB to make sure all tissue has passed. They took a pregnancy test and confirmed I was no longer pregnant (I know that, I pushed and held my dead child in my hands) but had no concern for my health outside of that. Dr. Khalili was trying to shoo me out of the door, rather than perform a sonogram to ensure all tissue was gone and I was healthy outside of my grief. She will likely have a… malpractice suit one day. Yes, she has great reviews, however, that’s only if you’re having a healthy pregnancy. Outside of that, she doesn’t care about your losses.

Dr. Khalili delivered my first baby and now we're back for our second. She has always made my pregnancy visits so enjoyable. It's kind of like she has a 6th sense, cause as soon as she walks into the room she already knows my concerns and helps me through them. I will always keep coming back to her!

First off, I am an American expat, meaning I am from the USA but I live in another country because of my husband’s job. Yesterday, I decided to go to Triage shortly after arriving in the US. It took 40+ hours of transit time and four planes to arrive to Lubbock. In the country where my husband works, healthcare and general sanitation is not the greatest and I had not seen my OBGYN in over a month. After arriving back in my native USA, I wanted to see the doctor to make sure my baby was ok. It was a gruelling time trying to get back to the US at 35 weeks pregnant and my original destination (Houston) was not available due to flooding from the Tropical Storm Imelda. I came to Lubbock since my mother lives here… and thus ended up at Triage at UMC. Big mistake. After finally being seeing by the doctor, Dr. Shiva Khalili had the audacity to scold me about triage, saying this was for emergencies only and she would do ME A FAVOR by showing me a sonogram of the baby. She then proceeded to… make me feel horrible for wasting her time if I was not in dire pain thus me not needing to be in triage. It did not matter if I was concerned for my health or my baby’s after such a long trip after previously living in a developing country; in her mind, I was wasting her time and needed to be taught a lesson on the point of triage. Though a flight and transit like that causes leg swelling and blood clots, she could care less… I was very taken back by her horrid bedside manner, her lack of empathy regarding my long journey to get back home, her rudeness and self-righteous attitude confronting me like I was a bad teenager wasting her time. After going through a horrible ordeal in India and trying to get back to the US this was the last thing I needed, especially since my husband could not come for my journey. Talk about making me feel inadequate and hopeless. I would not send my worst enemy to her. She lacked general communication skills, her first impression was pompous and egotistical, did not speak in a professional manner but more so as an angry mother, and obviously did not think she needed any active listening to understand my unique situation or concerns. The silver lining to all of this is that it confirms my initial thoughts to not give birth at UMC. I was not given personal dignity or respect, which is a basic patient right.
