Dr. Shun Hang Lui, MD

Our experience at Dr. Lui's office was entirely negative. My husband went in for a Cataract Evaluation. I'm not sure that I can say anything positive about this visit. 1) Wait time to get in to the exam room was 45 minutes past the appointment time. This was a 2:00 apt, finally got in at 2:45 2) We were placed in 4 different exam rooms during our wait for the Dr. Reason was one exam room was out of service due to a light bulb being out. I guess they never heard of calling maintenance or trying to change it themselves. 3) After tracking down the nurse to find out if we had been forgotten, we were told the Dr. was running about 1 hour behind schedule. 4) Nurse took blood pressure reading but could not tell us what the normal range should be for a patient my husband's age 5) Finally see the Dr. He was very hard to understand, heavy accent. Even his nurse told us she had a hard time understanding him and following his directions. 6) Dr. was frustrated at the… amount of questions we were asking about cataract surgery. He told us we were asking too many questions that might confuse us. He also told us that he was taking a lot of extra time with us because of all of our questions 7) We will not be using Dr. Lui for cataract surgery 8) Final negative, we were told when the appointment was scheduled that the cost for the Cataract Evaluation would be $150. We were told on the day of the appointment that the charge was $150. Now we have received a bill for another $300. According to Shannon's billing department the receptionist should have told us that this was an estimated cost only. Which she did not do. After talking to several people in the billing department it sounds like this occurs often enough that they have stressed to the offices that they need to make sure that the patient understands this is an estimate. So if you decide to go to this Dr. make sure you know the cost. Get something in writing and be sure and take names and document who tells you what. By the way our 2:00 apt finally ended at 4:45.
