Dr. Sidney Charles Rubenstein, MD, FACS

I’ve been a patient for 9 years And Dr.R has been excellent!! Saved my Life be finding my cancer early He and his staff take the extra steps to make sure my medication is covered from my insurance He also takes his time to listen to any medical problems you have If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here today he is a Great Doctor and has Great personality Extremely Blessed to have him as a Doctor!!

I was fortunate to have this skilled physician save my life three years ago when I was brought to the Emergency Room at Mt. Auburn. He is a very caring and competent doctor who I would gladly recommend to others. At my annual check-ups, he always makes me feel like a valued patient to be listened to and not rushed through a quick visit. Thank you Dr. Rubenstein

Fact 1: I was assigned to Dr. Rubenstein through an emergency at Mt Auburn. Fact 2: I was diagnosed with kidney stones. Fact 3: Dr. Rubenstein and his team put a stent into the kidney. Fact 4: I had terrible pain in the other kidney but one of his team members didn't believe me, and went so far as to say my wife and I are overreacting and panicking - discharge papers had been signed and I was supposed to be leaving (I couldn't because I was in tremendous pain still). Turns out I was having an allergic reaction to a dye/something put into the kidney for visualization during the stenting - being skeptical of my pain didn't help anyone. Fact 5: A second stent was successfully put in. Dr. Rubenstein visited a couple of times - explained things clearly, made some stupid jokes about my wife (she is petite; the joke was: "did you bring your daughter with you?") which we didn't appreciate. When we want to hear jokes, we watch stand-up rather than visit the emergency room. Fact 6: I was… asked to come in for a lithotripsy. Dr. R. did a good job with the procedure, but made another stupid (actually quite hurtful) joke about my friend who had driven me to the hospital - again, not appreciated. Fact 7: When I asked him if I would be okay at home alone after the procedure since there was no one to look after me, he said: "what's the worst that can happen? you'll die." Wow. Great thing to hear just before going into the operating theater. Fact 8: Followed-up a few weeks later for stent removal. Dr. R. removed the stent - I don't know why but after removal I was buckling over in pain and he said 'there's another patient waiting to come in - move him to the other room' - I suppose compassion is too much to ask for these days. The other room, by the way, didn't have anywhere to lie down, just a couple of armchairs. Fact 9: I recovered, but of course, changed urologists as soon as I recovered. Dr. R's office did a good job with explaining and collecting payments etc, and the nurse in his clinic was very nice but I personally am going to stay far, far away from him in the future. Fact 10: A lot of my comments are mirrored in some of the 67 reviews he has received on this website as of right now. Sort lowest to highest and you'll find that people point out that he is very rude (year 2015, year 2017 reviews). Fact 11: There are much better urologists in the Greater Boston Area. Find one. I did.

The Dr. surprised me at how available he was to me. I asked a lot of questions about him, in and out of the hospital. Most said that he knew what he was doing and was very accurate.

We were referred to Dr. Rubenstein last fall when my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He performed a prostectomy and neobladder surgery, which was extremely complicated. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Rubenstein was wonderful. He was so patient, taking the time to sit with my mother, father, and I at each visit and explain in detail the options, risks, and possible outcomes, while remaining completely honest and straightforward. He answered every question we had with professionalism and compassion. Today, four and a half months later, my father is cancer free. It has been a trying rehabilitation process but Dr. Rubenstein has personally guided my father through every phase of it, making himself available whenever he has needed him. He is an unbelievably gifted surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone.

I had a patient of his who I was seeing in follow up. This patient had significant complications so I attempted to contact him. When he called back he was incredibly rude both to my staff and to myself. Speaking with the patient, it became clear he is often like this with him as well. I suspect that he is not a pleasant person to work with and would hesitate to refer any of my patients or friends to him in the future. His office staff was incredibly pleasant, however.

I felt compelled to write a review after reading some of the other people's comments. Dr. R is extremely dedicated and cares deeply about his patients. I have been his patient since he first began practicing and he has never disappointed me . Once (many moons ago), I was operated on in the middle of the night, just so I wouldn't have to writhe in pain . It was such a relief. I don't know many doctors that do non-emergency surgery in the middle of the night . So I don't know who these other people have been dealing with but it certainly ISN'T the Dr R that I admire and respect.

So unpropfessional. The administrative staff began swearing and yelling when I asked if she would refax my referral request. Staff shouted "I don't work for her. " Take the crazy out of here" I was in tears by the time the MD took me in his office. He calmly apologized and stated "i'll take care of it.". I felt he really did not care at what I reported regarding his staffs behavior. She used the f*** word so many times when yelling. To make matters worse. When I was waiting for the MD to come in to do a procedure, I got a text. It was from an annonymous caller statoing"If you could read my mind right now, you would get shy." Right after this text the MD walked in the room to do the procedure. When the procedure was done. MD stated "your an nurse and know your body, we don't have to make a follow up just call me if you need me. No follow up?? He was trying to keep me away from the administrative assistant that had the unbeleivable behavior. So after being tramatized, I say run don't… walk from Dr Rubenstein.

Absolutely terrible doctor - the people in his office are like shylockers regarding money - stay away from him

I like him a lot. He is weary to talk t o and answers all questions. We have had some disagreements but he is always willing to listen.
