Dr. Simran Randhawa, MD

Dr. Simran Randhawa is a specialty care physician board certified in general and thoracic surgery. She joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2014.
Dr. Randhawa particularly values working with patients facing complex cancer diagnoses, appreciating the trust they place in their surgical team. She also finds meaning in helping patients navigate life after surgery with clarity and confidence. Her goal is to ensure each patient feels heard, informed and supported at every step of their journey. Dr. Randhawa knows that surgery is a major milestone in a patient’s life and believes in building partnerships rooted in honesty, empathy and excellence.

Trained in both general and thoracic surgery across leading U.S. institutions, she brings a global perspective to surgical innovation, education and multidisciplinary cancer care. Originally from India, where she graduated as valedictorian from medical school, she completed her general surgery training at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, serving as chief resident and earning multiple teaching awards. She then completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Colorado. At Colorado, she led surgical education initiatives, contributed to enhanced recovery programs and was actively involved in clinical research related to thoracic oncology and esophageal surgery.
She has authored several peer-reviewed publications, contributed to national surgical textbooks and remains active in national surgical societies. Known for her dedication to compassionate care and surgical innovation, Dr. Randhawa is deeply committed to advancing outcomes in lung and esophageal cancer surgery.
Her clinical interests include robotic thoracic surgery, lung-sparing lung cancer surgery, esophageal cancer surgery, esophageal reflux disease surgery, hiatal hernia repair, mediastinal tumors such as for thymomas, thymic carcinoma, airway surgery for tracheal tumors, tracheobronchomalacia, lung volume reduction surgery, surgery for hyperhidrosis, and advanced thoracoscopic surgery for Infectious lung disease.
In her free time, Dr. Randhawa enjoys hiking, working out and Indian folk dance (bhangra). She advocates for global surgical education and mentors aspiring surgeons locally and internationally.
