Dr. Smitha Vilasagar, MD

Don’t bother if you’re overweight. I found out I had a giant endometrioma and multiple docs/gyns had told me it should be removed ASAP due to the threat of cancer. So I found Dr. Vilasagar from Nancy’s Nook on facebook, thinking I would get an experienced surgeon. All was going well during the consultation; I had basically laid out my most private medical info for the nurse. Then, after 40min of discussion, I was told that the nurse and Dr. Vilasagar had “discussed my case” beforehand and decided not to do my surgery because I am overweight. Their compromise was that I could lose 80lbs and they said that I “would be surprised at how quickly that could happen.” This came after I had just told them that I had lost a lot of weight quickly due to pancreas damage, which they did not care about at all! I then asked, how can I even exercise my with > 6” endometrioma, as other docs had said no exercise but walking? They said leave it, it wouldn’t hurt! That it wasn’t risky! That they weren’t… concerned about cancer! I would love to see them say the same thing to a skinny woman, because I have never heard so much bologna in my life! Not to mention the nurse probed me on very personal medical info when THEY KNEW they weren’t even going to help me. A simple, “we’ve decided we aren’t skilled enough to help you” would have sufficed and saved us both time. Then came the incessant calling and messaging! They wanted to offer me help with weight loss, which I declined at the consultation due to my health conditions, and they kept calling and messaging me MANY times which was honestly just upsetting and unnecessary. They only backed off after I told them that their advice was dangerous based on my other docs’ advice. But anyway, if you like being harassed via phone/message after they’ve turned you down as a patient, I guess this is the doc for you!

She is a positive physician who can bring calmness to the room. Dr. Vilasagar performed a total hysterectomy on me. I had other options, but chose to go this particular route. Like everyone before surgery, I questioned myself. My first appointment with her was calming and reassuring, but the worry before surgery tends to take over. Her post surgical protocol is wonderful. She used a 3 day block that brought some pain free recovery. She cautioned the first 2 weeks to just heal. She was correct. At 2 weeks I was so thankful I had made not only the choice to have the surgery, but was so grateful it was the hands of Dr. Vilasagar that did my surgery. I would highly recommend her for your female surgery. She is kind, caring, loving and skilled. It is a little more than 5 weeks now, and except for occasional tiredness, I feel great!

I had laparoscopic surgery with Dr. Vilasagar last month, and the experience was wonderful. She did such a thorough job removing my cysts and endometriosis, and my recovery was so fast that I was feeling back to normal only 3 days after surgery. Not only that, but Dr. V has the most wonderful, calm, soothing demeanor and made me feel so comfortable and well-informed throughout the pre-op and post-op experience. I highly recommend her and her amazing team at Atrium Mercy Center for Women's Pelvic Health!

Dr. Vilasagar is a great doctor and surgeon, but when she finds out that you are uninsured or that your insurance has not gone through, her caring attitude changes completely. Unfortunately, I had to experience this post surgery. I applied for Medicaid before surgery and could afford my appointments, so she did my second laparoscopy. After I was denied Medicaid because I didn’t meet the requirements, I went to my postop appointment. When proceeded to tell me that my pain was all in my head and wouldn’t even consider a hysterectomy, which is something we had discussed pre surgery. It left me feeling hopeless and I left in an much pain and depression as I felt going in. Dr. Vilasagar and Atrium Health do NOT have sympathy for uninsured patients. Before you go to Atrium Health, make sure that you’re insured and make sure that you have money. Otherwise, you don’t matter to them.

I have no words for Dr. Vilasagar (Dr. V) other than amazing! From my initial visit with her to review my MRI, she was so warm and extremely knowledgeable. She made me feel very at ease with everything and took her time to ensure I understood how we would proceed. I never felt rushed or intimidated. Leading up to my surgery (laparoscopic myomectomy), her team was very responsive to any questions and again, put me at ease with my upcoming procedure. Her pain management plan prior to and after surgery was fantastic. She went the extra mile before and during surgery to ensure my pain would be minimal afterwards, and it was! Her work is also nothing short of amazing. The pictures I received from her internal work and what you can see on the outside wounds were both beautiful. She really takes her time and is very precise in ensuring cosmetically things look good, inside and out and it is much appreciated. After a couple days, I was up walking around and after 2 weeks, I was back to work.… Having this procedure done made a huge impact on getting back my quality of life. If you have been having problems with a large fibroid, I 100% recommend having this done with Dr. V!

I would recommend family and friends to go and see her. She and Jordan are a TRUE gift!

I became a patient of Dr. Vilasagar two years ago after several misdiagnosis and surgeries the year prior. Dr. Vilasagar has been diligent and very instrumental in my healing process and has worked tirelessly to ensure proper treatment and diagnosis of my condition. The care and concern she provides to her patients is almost unheard of in this day and time. I am thankful for all the hard work and dedication she provides to me as a patient. I am also a medicaid patient and have never felt discriminated against as her patient. She has worked with me and the insurance company to ensure my treatment plan. I am still a patient and I highly refer Dr. Vilasagar to anyone that needs help.

Dr. Vilasagar is an extremely talented surgeon with a caring bedside manner. She took on my case when no one else would. I had a smooth recovery after surgery and Dr. V was by my side throughout my recovery. She is knowledgeable and educated me about my issues. I recommend anyone go to her for these issues.

I have been to many doctors and Vilasagar has been by far the worst provider I have seen. She did not speak in a professional matter and it was clear that her patients are not a priority to her. I would never recommend her to a potential patient.
