Sonja Brune, MSN, APRN, CCNS, CHFN, AACC, FHFSA, HF-Cert

Sonja D. Brune, MSN, APRN, CCNS, CHFN, AACC, FHFSA, HF-Cert is a Heart Failure Practitioner trained to help manage heart failure in hopes of feeling better, whether or not heart function improves. Sonja has been practicing as a registered nurse in an intensive care unit in 1989, and quickly developed a love for everything related to heart disease. She began working for a cardiologist two years later and soon enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing Degree program at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where her training was in acute and critical-care of the adult with a primary study focus in heart failure.
Since obtaining her advanced practice license and passing the Acute/Critical Care boards in 1999, she has devoted her career to caring for patients with varying degrees of heart failure. Her main objective is to help improve the overall well-being of her patients through comprehensive review of their medical history, individualized medication regimens, …extensive education and counseling, and easy access to care in her clinic. Her approach to accomplishing this is to work together with the patient and loved ones to determine their wishes, obstacles that can be overcome, and teach them how to manage a chronic illness with proper medications, lifestyle changes, and early recognition of flare ups.
When Sonja is not teaming up with heart failure patients to improve their symptoms and survival, she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with her husband, Will, who is also a nurse, and rescue dog, Ranger.
