Dr. Sophie Kao Chwa, MD

I took my 77 yr old father who is diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. She didn't see us until 45 minutes into our appointment (we were seen by a nurse). When we did get back into the exam room, she answered an IM on her computer and a text on her phone while trying to read thru my dads file. She then asked if he had memory problems. WHAT? I calmly said yes. She then asked if he had seen a neurologist. I lost it. He's been to his Neurologist about 5 times in the last 8 months, just to adjust medicines and his health is rapidly declining. I lost it. I said; he has LBD; why don't I just tell you what's going on. So, I basically said that I wanted to move my dad from his primary DR and into the Geriatric Unit because of his LBD and how rapidly he was changing and that I was looking for more resources from them. She basically said that she would get me in touch with the social worker and that she didn't want to change any meds at this time. I agree, but wish she would of spent a little… more time with us. I understand that they are short handed, but she was not thorough or helpful. We have another appt in 4 months. Until then, it's up to me to make sure that I can get the best care for my dad.
