Dr Michaelsen is a great dentist. I have a special needs child, and Dr Michaelsen goes out of his way to make sure each visit for myself and my son is a good experience!

I only saw the dentist for about 10 minutes out of the entire appointment. The rest was his.. head nurse maybe? They didn't really explain who they where... making her best guess about what was happening. To which he seemed to just second, and made a quick exit. I had Lyme's Disease, my face paralyzed for a month, and I was on hardcore medications that effected my teeth. In VA, I was all ready in the process trying to fix this. Unfortunately, I had to move states away from my dentist and was unable to complete my treatment plan for my teeth. (this dentist, did understand how lymes disease meds affected teeth. and how I was placed on Meds that where quickly discontinued because of the damage to teeth all around... Something Dr. Michaelsen didn't want hear/ or seem to care about) Dr. Michaelsen didn't want to hear any of this. Instead he wanted, (and I shall use his choice of words here) sum it up to "poor education on how to properly brush". He also made comments on how if I didn't own… up to drinking soda he would have assumed I was a crackhead, though he later back peddled claiming how it was the "wrong colour" for drugs anyway. He also made comments of how "young people think they don't need insurance, till times like this.".... My husband lost his job, something WE BOTH tried to explain, and where waiting for our new benefits from BOTH of our new jobs to kick in, in less then a month. That didn't seem to faze him though, as he too busy assuming that having no insurance was some sort of "life choice", we where making... and his award winning speech on why to believe him, over my past dentist was "You're at a point where you just going to have to choose who to believe.. me or him." That is actually how he chose to start the conversation about what he thought. By the end, he had me in tears as he explained how "the only option" to fix my teeth was close to 21,000.00, plus a 900 (something... I believe around 948) for a cleaning that I HAD to have before he agreed to work on my teeth any further. I tried to even ask him "if this is simple rot, like your saying, why didn't my first dentist at least say something? Anything in fact, before it got to this point?" To which he naturally... he had no answer. I found him to be extremely rude, but the head nurse was even worse. When trying to explain about the lymes disease, she went as far as to say that I had to stay extensively in a hospital for it to the doctor.... Something I had NEVER said or even hinted at. (That was her friend with that was hospitalized due to a similar illness, that she was talking about) She was the one that that first asked if I drank soda, and when I said, "yes, after the lymes because it was the only thing I could actually hold down because of the meds." she all but called me a liar to my face. This supposed uneducated crackhead look-a-like will NEVER tell a friend, family, or even foe to go to this place. I'll be finding a doctor that at least tries to act professional, with nurses who don't confuse patient conditions with her friends experiences with a different disease.
