Dr. Spencer Paul Barney, MD

I had gone to Dr Barney one time about two years before I became pregnant. That first visit was a standard visit, it wasnt great and it wasnt bad - I was indifferent and felt an OBGYN is an OBGYN. Once I learned I was pregnant I went to him for my first visit and was incredibly nervous but excited at the same time. He was very rushed and didnt seem to want to take the time to really go over what to expect and what I needed to do moving forward now that I'm going through something so life changing. For someone who has gone through a pregnancy before might find him fine, but I was really looking for someone to walk me through the basics and take the time to answer my questions but he was just very in and out. Listened to the baby's heartbeat and out - to me that was a special moment but we didnt even get a chance to enjoy it. He never acknowledged my husband either which was odd. I thought maybe it was just a busy day, so I kept my second appointment to see him again. This time I had… a list of questions I had come with after doing a few weeks worth of reading. I told him I had some questions for him and he seemed frustrated, leaned back and crossed his arms as if to say OK GO. I started with my first question which he answered very quickly and was ready for the next, without really going into explanation or checking for understanding. It then felt like a race to hurry and get through them all - I'm taking too long. Mind you I had maybe 6 or 8 questions which I ended up shortening to only 4 because I felt so rushed and like an inconvenience. He also did not seem supportive of my birth plan. I felt like a number in a revolving door with no say in the care I would receive, especially when I dont feel comfortable asking basic questions at my 2nd appointment during a pregnancy. I have since been searching for another provider but at least I now have a clear idea of the type of provider I'm looking for. Someone who doesnt mind taking the time to answer my questions and viewing me as a person, not patient #54 in Room 8. For someone who is aware of all the ins and outs of pregnancy and no questions and wants to trust the hospital system without your individual concerns being met, I'm sure Dr Barney is fine but I would like to feel like I have a say in my care and that I am a valued patient.

Dr. Barney delivered my twins and saved my life and theirs by correctly diagnosing HELLP Syndrome and performing an emergency C-section that same night. He is a wonderful doctor who answers all of my questions and makes me feel at ease.

He is awesome! Very courteous and gives you wonderfull attention

Great Doctor. Good bedside manners and very knowledgeable. When I was in labor he stayed in touch all day going back and forth from his clinic to see me at the hospital even though he was not the doctor on call. Later that night he came back to deliver the baby. I trust him and plan on having him be my doctor through all of my future pregnancies.
