Dr. Spiros L. Blackburn

Dr. Blackburn and my faith saved me from dangerous and unnecessary brain surgery for which another Dr. had scheduled me. Prompted by Jesus I sought Dr. Spiros for a 2nd opinion for which he did an outpatient "procedure" with microscopic camera thru the groin. The out patient procedure by Dr. Spiros revealed what HE suspected but wanted to confirm. The tiny aneurism is in my sinus cavity not brain and surgery was unnecessary! In Dr. Spiros professional opinion the aneurism in my sinus cavity "has a LESS than 1% probability of enlarging". Considering my experience I would highly recommend his honesty and care in a world where neither are in great supply in ANY profession. I thank God for this Doctor!!

My sister was found have a large brain tumor. She is my most favorite person in the world. Dr Blackburn removed it. But that’s not the whole story. He was very forthcoming with information. He answered all of our questions and was very patient about doing so. He was so kind to her. He also saved as much of her hair as possible so she could still wear her hair long. She came out of surgery good as new as if nothing happened. He may never know just how much this meant to us. I hope in his days he knows nothing but blessings and kindness. He surely deserves it.

I remember nothing of my trauma. I had a SAH in 2014 (FL). Local hospital records CT showed a major hemorrhage. They shipped me to the county trauma center with little hope for a positive outcome. Dr. Paine, there, did emergency surgery (ventriculostomy I believe). I was then airlifted to Shands in Gainesville FL where Dr. Spiros L Blackburn performed an "Occipital to PICA Bypass". About a 14 hour affair according to my family. Which wore him and his team out. I have not returned to work and probably never will, but I am here and I deal with short term memory loss issues, sensory overload (cannot tolerate multi-tasking at all - or stressful situations), some vertigo but these are all part of me now. I do remember one or two follow-up visits where I really got to meet him and Dr. Hoh. A very talented and caring surgeon, to whom I and my family are grateful.

Very compassionate and easy to understand. Never felt hurried along. He explained everything to my understanding.

Outcome of tumor resection of very rare brain tumor was poor at first, but patient significantly improved over the next year. Unfortunately about 25% of the tumor remains. I believe Dr. Blackburn is a very skilled surgeon and did the best he could with such a rare tumor and location in the brain (on the anterior wall of the third ventricle). He has excellent bedside manner, is extremely caring, and continues to see the patient on a regular basis post surgery just to see how she's doing. He was the right person for the job and we are grateful!
