Dr. Stacie L Lauro, MD

I met Dr. Lauro at an inpatient psych unit where I was seeking help for increased depression w/suicidal thoughts. I was impressed with how thorough she was during our first interview; it was as though she actually valued my opinion as to what was going on with me. Wow, did she have me fooled! The next day, she had diagnosed me with Munchausen's Syndrome, which is a condition where one lies about, exaggerates, or self-induces illness for attention. Nothing could be further from the truth! As if that wasn't bad enough, she took me off of my medications cold turkey, without tapering me off the drugs (which included Valium... a medication that can be dangerous to withdraw from). I felt physically ill from the withdrawals, and emotionally, I was confused, anxious, and angry. I have never lied about being sick in my LIFE. She finally discharged me after three days of making me question my own sanity. A year later, another depressive episode forced me to return to that same unit. Thankfully,… Dr. Lauro was gone. My new psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar disorder and now I'm on only one medication and doing GREAT, bless him. He said that my medical records were a "mess" and that in addition to Munchausen's, Dr. Lauro had also diagnosed me with "antisocial personality disorder", aka SOCIOPATHY. At first, I was bitter about my experiences with Dr. Lauro, but in the end, I know the truth. I'm not a liar or a sociopath; her misdiagnoses reflect more on what kind of "doctor" she is than what kind of person I am.

I have only been to Dr. Lauro once, but if I could afford it I would go back every week. She is so comforting, a sympathetic listener, and overall a brilliant Psychiatrist. She did wonders for me, even in one session. I would recommend her to anyone in Tampa!
