Dr. Stavros George Lazarou, DO

This man is a MONSTER!!!!!! I waited more than 2 hours for my appointment at the Great Neck location, which is the worst gynecologist office, with the rudest staff I’ve ever experienced. After they called me in, the technician/nurse asked me if I was sexually active, and when I disclosed I wasn’t because I’m a virgin, she commented, “Oh, you’re not missing much anyway.” After waiting for Dr. Stavros Lazarou to examine me and meeting me for the very first time, his very first comment after looking at my chart was, “Don’t have children, you have too many health issues,” which I had no intention of exploring with him, and found that comment to be extremely dismissive and insulting. When he proceeded with the pap smear, he used a device that caused me to feel excruciating pain! I was yelling ouch, and he would just say, “Open your legs wider and bring your body down more!” I told him, “It really hurts!” to which he replied, “Why didn’t you tell me you are a virgin?!” At this point I… was in so much physical pain, and now emotional pain because of this heartless monster! I was thinking, shouldn’t his judgmental and rude nurse have relayed the message to him that I am a virgin and shouldn’t he have used the appropriate equipment to examine me in order to give me a pap smear?! After he finished, he got up from his stool, told me passively and unenthusiastically, “Nice to meet you” and walked out while I was still naked, with my legs still in the foot stirrups! He didn’t once say, okay you can get up and put your clothes back on, and I’m sorry it was so painful. NOTHING. When I left that office, I went home crying completely devastated, and to add insult to injury, I noticed I was bleeding when I got home because of him! I called the office, and his advice was if the bleeding continues, go to the ER. This whole ordeal happened probably 2-3 years ago, and I didn’t think to write a review at the time because I just figured I would find a better doctor and leave this experience in the past and behind me, but it wasn’t until I became intimate with my partner that I became triggered by this trauma because that was what it was – a trauma. Dr. Stavros Lazarou traumatized me! He violated me, abandoned me when I was most vulnerable, and thought nothing of it. He is a monster and I’m writing this review so that hopefully another person doesn’t have to go through this horrible experience that has now scarred me for life. No apology can undo what this monster did to me.

Weeks leading up to my appointment the office kept changing my time. Someone called me the day before and asked me if I could come back at my original time. Not once dude she mention my husband couldn’t come. I then got a text message a few minutes after advising that nine patients could not come to appointments. I was the first patient of the day to arrive. One of the staff at the computer was already complaining about having to call patients to coordinate video/phone calls instead of having in office patients. The person who checked me in saw that I was wearing gloves. I had to keep taking my gloves on and off because she was disorganized. I was taken to a room by a wonderful nurse. She was the only good thing about my appointment. The Dr. was late-not even there yet. He argued with the nurse while examining me as to why I was there for an appointment because I was just under 6 weeks pregnant and he doesn’t see patients until 8 weeks. Like it’s my fault, I told the office when the… first day of my last period was. Then we went into his office and he was talking to himself about Christina’s cervix and that he didn’t know why it was small and her fist delivery was fine. Why is a Dr. late, arguing with his nurse and discuss another patients medical history out loud and to another patient. It made me so uncomfortable that the several questions I had weren’t asked because I felt like I couldn’t trust his discretion and professionalism. He began to ask me if I was Greek and where I was from. When I said that I wasn’t Greek he asked me what my background was. I thought I filled that out in the medical paperwork and he wasn’t asking for medical reasons. Then I received a bill for almost $1,600. His staff didn’t bill my insurance. The unprofessional office, staff and the Dr. himself made me so uncomfortable that I immediately switched providers. I can’t say told he is a good doctor or not but these small details all added up to be major red flags for me and if I can’t feel comfortable during my first appointment, how could I ever feel comfortable in the delivery room.

this is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about Dr Lazarou. Ethos is the greek work that denotes the disposition, character, or fundamental values to a specific person. Dr Lazarou delivered my baby boy few weeks ago. We found him throught our insurance network. We would never imagine that such a caring and devoted doctor actually exists in NY. He took over my wife on her last trimester of her pregnancy and from day one she felt comfortable with him. He was really detail oriented and explained everything through the delivery process. He was on top of his game and made him self available every time he was neeeded. The recovery after the c-section was speedy and without any complications. We can't thank him enough for all his efforts and devotion to our baby's delivery.

Dr. Lazarou delivered both of our daughters. Words cannot describe what an amazing man/doctor he is. We wouldn’t have gotten through both pregnancies without him. My wife felt at ease at all times - always made her feel comfortable with any questions. He was always available and when the time came, he was there and gave us 2 memorable experiences (and healthy baby girls) with no concerns in the world. Would highly recommend Dr. Lazarou!

When a woman is going and tells him that I want to get pregnant, what tests should I done before me and my husband started trying. Is there anything else that I should know!??? As a doctor he did not order the right tests, he didn’t test my titters, STD and other things. So unprofessional. I got pregnant 2 months later and they did a lot of the tests in the Cornell hospital. How you don’t test a woman who works with kids about the vaccinations titters. I am so angry, please go always and ask a second opinion! Sometimes they only care to see a big amount of patients and bill the insurance. So unprofessional

Dr Lazarou is an excellent doctor! He has amazing bedside manners and knows how to make his patients feel comfortable at all times. I met him 4 years ago when I got pregnant and although I was very nervous, he immediately made me feel that this will be a piece of cake. He is very patient, understanding, and knowledgable, all of which are important when dealing with your doctor, especially the one who will deliver your kids. He is one of the few MDs that will deliver you whether he is on call or not, which is rare to find. A big plus for me and I believe for every mother to be. My only problem is the staff (management)at the office. They always seem overwhelmed, never give him messages from patients, and are hard to communicate with. Having a career in healthcare myself, I think that NYU should take care of this issue and hire individuals who are capable of handling the job instead of people who are not considerate. Otherwise Dr Lazarou is the best doctor any mother to be could ask… for!!

Simply, Dr. Lazarou is by far the best doctor I have ever had or have interacted with in my entire life. He is not only a wonderful doctor but a kind, compassionate and caring human being. The epitome of excellence. He always took plenty of time to listen to my husband's and my questions and concerns. His advice and recommendations were always 100% spot on. He is always calm and makes you feel comfortable, whatever the situation. He truly cares for his patients which is not something you see too often these days. He is the model of what doctors should be. I am forever grateful to him for the health of my 2 beautiful boys. He is truly, truly amazing!!!!

Dr. Lazarou was the best OB-GYN we could have ever hoped to meet. He is highly attentive to the millions of questions asked by a first-time nervous mommy; extremely patient, kind and skilled. His bedside manner during both my C-Section and (sadly some time later) a miscarriage went above and beyond what we could have expected in a busy doctor. Oh and the minimal incision scar from the C-section was truly the work of a top-skilled surgeon. Dr. Lazarou was a gift to us from Heaven.

Office staff & nurses very friendly, quick to processes your paperwork. Dr. Stavros Lazarou was friendly, very professional, answered all my questions & concerns to my satisfaction. I highly recommend this doctor & his staff.

Dr. Lazarou is an exceptional doctor, his bedside manner and method of explaining diagnosis in a clear concise way is refreshing.
