Dr. Stephanie Bestwina

Dr. Bestwina is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, IL. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in Biomedical Engineering. After graduation she worked as a field engineer for an oil field service company in Midland, TX for several years prior to returning to her true passion, a career in the medical industry, helping people. Dr. Bestwina then attended the University of Houston College of Optometry in Houston, TX, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a doctorate in optometry in 2003.

Dr. Bestwina completed externships at the Spokane VA Medical Center in Spokane, WA and at the Wuerzburg Army Hospital in Wuerzburg, Germany. Upon graduation she returned to the Spokane VA Medical Center to perform a residency in ocular disease. Her optometric career has allowed her to work in conjunction with many well respected ophthalmologists and optometrists in several states where she has gained extensive experience treating ocular disease, assisting …in refractive surgeries, performing surgical co-management, and fitting specialty contact lenses.

Dr. Bestwina’s main interest is in treating ocular disease including dry eye, glaucoma, retinal and diabetic eye disease. She feels it is important to stay abreast of the most current technological advances in eye care so that she may provide the best treatment options for her patients. She believes in the importance of educating patients on their vision and eye health so that she can work WITH them and their other medical providers to obtain the best plan for them. Dr. Bestwina enjoys working with patients of all ages to maximize their vision and provide the best quality of life possible.

Dr. Bestwina is a member of the American Optometric Association, Colorado Optometric Association, and Southern Colorado Optometric Society. She is also an active member of VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity), having participated in mission trips to Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Madagascar, to name a few. It is her desire to bring the gift of sight to as many people as she can here at home and abroad.

She moved to Colorado Springs in 2014, and has lived in Monument since 2016. She is very excited to be practicing in Monument to be able to give back to the community where she lives. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, traveling, photography, watching sports (especially her beloved Chicago Cubs) and spending time with her boyfriend, Rich, and her two dogs, Finn and Clancy.
