Dr. Stephanie Eng, MD

Dr. Stephanie Eng is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree at Barnard College, studying Spanish and Latin American Literature, and her medical degree at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She completed psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago. During residency training, Dr. Eng was awarded an American Psychiatric Association SAMHSA research grant to investigate inequities in the use of chemical sedation and physical restraints to manage patient agitation in the emergency room. Dr. Eng then completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, where she provided psychiatric care to patients in the carceral system and collaborated with attorneys to answer questions that came up at the interface of law and psychiatry. Dr. Eng later worked as an inpatient attending psychiatrist at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health on the acute psychosis, women’s, and psychiatric …intensive care unit. While an inpatient attending, Dr. Eng was selected as a Medical Justice in Advocacy Fellow by the American Medical Association/Morehouse School of Medicine and was awarded funding to conduct research on psychiatric medication access in state prison systems across the United States. Dr. Eng currently works as an admitting psychiatrist at Gracie Square Hospital. She has published and presented in a number of areas, including agitation management, psychiatric care in correctional systems, and how social/structural determinants of health impact psychological morbidity.
