Dr. Stephanie Ann Shaffer, DPM

I am deeply concerned about the level of care my mother is receiving at her current facility. She was recently seen by Dr. Stephanie Shaffer, and I left that visit with more questions than answers. After taking my mother to urgent care, we were informed by the nurse practitioner that she has a fungal infection and needs to be evaluated by a podiatrist. I was told by the facility that a podiatrist would be on-site on Wednesday, April 15th. However, I was later informed that the visit would only involve toenail trimming. I specifically requested that Dr. Shaffer contact me to discuss my mother’s condition and treatment plan, but was told that she does not make those calls. As my mother’s advocate, I find this lack of communication unacceptable. Additionally, I asked whether my mother had been prescribed any medication for her fungal infection. It is widely understood that fungal infections require antifungal treatment—not antibiotics—and I want to ensure she is receiving appropriate… care. I strongly encourage families with loved ones in care facilities to stay actively involved, ask questions, and follow up to ensure proper treatment is being provided.
