Dr. Stephen Smith Able, MD

I am an RN. My husband with Parkinson's has been seeing Dr. Able for many years. Most of the negative reviews just do not understand Dr. Able's technique. Dr. Able is an observer. He may not sat much, but he is observing your behavior and answers to the questions he does ask and how you are affected by the questions. His diagnostic skills are spot on and he only prescribes meds as needed. He will not spend loads of time discussing your problems. If you want to talk, see a psychologist or counselor. If you want diagnosed and treated, see a psychiatrist. Dr. Able is a psychiatrist and a very good one.

Horrible, unethical doctor!!!. Was a patient for over 10 years and got a certified letter saying he is dropping me as a patient. I have no idea why or what happened. They will not return phone calls and they didn't even give me a backup doctor. I am on several meds and I have only a few weeks to find a new doctor. How any doctor has the nerve and indecency to cancel a long term patient via mail is beyond me. If this happened to you please file a report with the Arizona medical board so others don't have to go through this emotional and physical trama.

It was hard to get in to see him. When I did he was very professional and listened to my ever word without a hint of judgement. He took time to explain his responses and even suggested some books on the subject. He is older and old school which I like. I did have a question a few days after my appointment and I left it with his "receptionist" He got back to me the next day which I was happy with. He seems like he cares and I felt comfortable with him and will be seeing again!!

Very unprofessional!! Don't not use him as your doctors. Seek treatment else where.

I have been under his care for 5+ years. I have never had a problem getting in when I am in crisis, or suffered any negative results from his med oversight. He's always there when I need help.

He is an absolute hack. He acts perplexed all the time, while you are talking to him. He over prescribes pills . He LIES without cause. He testified in a trial and made up answers without cause. Both attorneys were laughing at his confusion and unprofessional conduct and he dressed like a hobo for court. RUN to find another

Scheduling staff is always great to deal with. Dr. A spends time learning what is needed.

Horrible telephone "application" procedure in which they ask many questions (a lot about insurance). Then got call back from someone stating that my son has not been "accepted"- he has simple ADD that responds very well to standard meds. A great kid, good student, we can pay out of pocket. Anyway I called this doctor asking to understand why he cannot see my son (of course he has the right to see who he wants) at least for a first visit and also if he can give us some other names of folks he can see since we do not know AZ. Needless to say I got no call back at all. Very rude situation, very bad customer service, insulting. Would not recommend this guy at all. Looking at the other reviews I would say do not go to him.

Dr. Able was very interested in my past medical history, and spent much more time with me than my previous doctor. When I had an issue a week later, he called me back promptly even though it was outside office hours.

Dr. Able is very personable and is quick to schedule active patients when needed. He has worked very well in straightening out insurance and prescription issues for me. He will often call me at home if he has a question about paper work I need him to fill out for me. I would recommend him to anyone!
