Dr. Stephen Peter Carter, MD

In case my regular doctor was not on call during the weekend it was advised we meet the rest of the practice. I had a routine checkup with Dr Carter. He came in the exam room. My husband was with me. Several times during our short appt while we were talking, Dr Carter proceeded to check himself out in the mirror behind the door. Literally looking at himself and stroking the side of his head as if he just got a fresh haircut while conversing with me about my pregnancy. I thought it was so weird and bizarre but didn’t say anything. The exam was done and we left the office. We were at the elevators and my husband playfully pretended to look at his reflection on the elevator door imitating Dr Carter. We both just bursted into laughter. I thought it was just me who noticed it but obviously my husband did, too. He is just like what patients described…rude and very poor bedside manner. Even the nurses in the hospitals do not like him! Nothing positive to say about this physician.

Decided to write this review only because I have been thinking about this so much lately. Almost 3 years ago, I found out I was pregnant. At 12 weeks pregnant I found out I had a blood clot and would hemorrhage often, so I was seeing dr carter as well as a specialist. My specialist was INCREDIBLE, dr carter however was not. Rude pretty much right from the beginning, as my problem progressed he just seemed more and more rude. At 20 weeks I had a gender reveal party and we found out we were having a baby boy, that night I hemorrhaged badly and had to go to the er because I was bleeding so much. Dr carter met us at the hospital and was completely rude. We told him how excited we were about our gender reveal party that happened a little earlier and he said "that's dumb" ( that we would have a gender reveal party considering my complications) it didn't get really terrible until I went in at 23 1/2 weeks because I hadn't felt my son move for a while. He told me he couldn't find a heart beat… and that I was going to have to deliver him. So I was admitted to the hospital. I had to be induced and was a complete emotional wreck. Dr carter wasn't even the least bit sympathetic, he was rough when examining me, rude when speaking to me, and at 4 cm dilated he said I was ready to deliver the baby, he tried to grab my son out of me and only got two of his legs out, and told me I wasn't dialated enough for the rest, so for an entire hour I sat there with my sons legs and feet dangling out of me, it was traumatizing. I could literally put my hand down there and touch his feet and legs. What we went through that day was the worst experience of my life, and dr carter just made it that much worse. We did however have a nurse there that was a complete angel and made up for a lot of what we experienced there, she was so sweet, she cried when she handed us our son and cried when we gave him back to her, we later came and brought her flowers a card and a bracelet with a little angel on it. I hope dr carter reads this because I would like for him to understand what an impact his attitude can have on people, because even three years later when I think of my sons birth I think of the way I was treated during the whole process

Dr. Carter was one of the meanest doctors I've ever seen in my life, both verbally and physically. Pelvic exam was painful. He didn't listen to a word I was saying and asked the same questions over and over. The office is old, dingy and the carpet filthy. I will never go back there. I would NOT RECOMMEND Dr. Carter.

I had a wonderful experience through my entire pregnancy and delivery. The staff is always so friendly and kind. Dr. Carter is great! On time, friendly, and helpful. I always feel comfortable and secure. My delivery was wonderful as well, such a special time and it was just that! We could not be happier!

I found out I was pregnant and was having severe pain. I called multiple doctors and this office had a doctor that took my insurance and would see me the same day. The receptionists were pleasant. I went into the room and after about 15 minutes Dr. carter came in. He did not introduce himself or shake my hand, and did not even acknowledge my husband and son. He began to examine me, did an ultrasound and told me, "you're not pregnant, did you even take a test?" I replied that I had two positive tests. Then MY HUSBAND (not the doc) pointed out a small sac on the screen. To which the doctor said, "oh yeah, I see it". There's more, but we will stop there. Second apt. Waited in the room 45 min for him. He came in and did not say a single word. Did my ultrasound pointed out the baby and heartbeat. This lasted less than 3 minutes. He printed the pictures and said, "I'll have these for you at the desk." I do not recommend this man to anyone, ever!

Dr. Carter delivered my twins and I couldn't be happier with the care I received. Not sure what happened to the other patient on this site, but that is the exact opposite of my experience. I am a nurse and would highly recomend Dr. Carter to friends and family.

Terrible bedside manner. Has no concern other than to complete the task at hand. I prefer a doctor who can make you feel like they are going to take care of you and your baby or that your comfort matters on some level. Yes childbirth is painful but that doesn't mean your doctor should bring on more pain without care or concern. Neither should he expect you to endure all the pain and just be a good patient for his sake. He is their for you not the other way around. I know several women who have had bad experiences. Anywhere from painful exams to problems with their child births.
