Dr. Stephen John Cico, MD

Stephen John Cico, MD, joined Seattle Children’s Hospital in the Division of Emergency Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington. For 5-1/2 years prior to moving to Seattle, he was on faculty in the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Medicine at Vanderbilt University. He attended undergraduate college in Dayton, Ohio, at Wright State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a University Honors B.S. in Biological Sciences maintaining a 4.0 GPA.



While there he did four years of basic science research on the sizing and activation of neuronal nucleosomes during early mouse developmental stages. After obtaining his M.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, he did a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of …Pittsburgh. He is currently a degree candidate for a Master’s in Medical Education (M.Ed.) through the University of Cincinnati College of Education and Department of Pediatrics.Â

Dr. Cico is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Internal Medicine. His research interests revolve around education in medicine, bedside teaching, and adult learners in medicine. He also has an interest in medical ethics involving research and children, and currently is authoring several abstracts publications including parental motivations for involvement in research and the effects of using different lexical descriptors on research participation. Outside of medicine, Dr. Cico enjoys travel, food, wine, and the outdoors, particularly tennis, snowshoeing, and hiking on his days off.
