Dr. Stephen Wayne George, MD

Dr. George did not listen to me, was arrogant and condescending, and told my primary care physician he doesn't do well treating patients with psychiatric illnesses. Never before has it ever been suggested or diagnosed that I have psychiatric illness. His comments were offensive and 100 percent wrong. My P.C. physician told me Dr. George's comments were inappropriate and wrong. I will not go to him again nor refer him. He is a profoundly troubled man based upon my office visit.

I will admit, it's difficult not to take it personally when your doctors dismiss you. But it really hurts when they dismiss your twelve year old son. I became extremely ill in 2016. I always *thought* I was healthy. But I went from being a busy, healthy, full time working mother and wife to being so sick I couldn't climb stairs, had no sense of time, and couldn't manage to hold on to a screwdriver. By the time I got in to see him, I was (mentally) in zombie mode. I felt intoxicated. Literally. Before I knew it, my GP and he were coordinating my care and decided this was all due to thyrotoxicity caused by overdose of thyroid meds. My endocrine doctor (who was just an M.D. and not a REAL endocrinologist) had managed my HRT well for nearly 10 years. None of my numbers had changed. But they insisted my TSH was overly suppressed (it was right at zero, but what they did not comprehend is, that number was arrived at very slowly over many years, as I was prescribed only… enough T3/T4 to bring it to near zero and that was my sweet spot). The first thing they did was insist I ditch my endocrine doctor and go to a "real" endocrinologist they recommended (this woman should be in a tight coat, not a white coat). I was so incapacitated, I couldn't argue. White coat endo took me off prednisone (yeah, I put myself on it when I got sick, and turns out it was the right choice). Dr. George took down my thyroid dose. They proceeded to slash my thyroid dose from 200mcg/day to 88mcg/day over six weeks. I cannot put into words how SICK I became. Most people can listen to music or watch TV when they're home sick. I couldn't. I was that sick. I laid on the sofa every day, all day, with my phone on my chest, waiting for the next dose reminder alarm, dreading 3:30pm because I knew I'd have to force myself to get up when my kids came home. My GP wouldn't prescribe anything helpful (diuretics for headaches, muscle relaxers, a little tylenol 3) but she was more than willing to treat my "anxiety". As was Dr. George. Buspar is his favorite. I took the crap just to humor him. Figured he might "get it" if I didn't feel better after taking it. A muscle biopsy came back abnormal. He still insisted it was thyrotoxicosis. And then... my hair started to fall. And it ALL fell. But he still dismissed high ANA, profuse flushing (the likes you've never seen), thyroid antibodies and high liver enzymes. My son was having bone pain and headaches; his labs (first time) indicated low D, low iron sat, low T4, high CRP, high AFP. But... that's normal too. There's much more to this story. Too much more. But there are SO MANY things he could have checked (me and my son). I never got a response to one last email pleading for help. Sadly, I don't think he cared. (And I couldn't help but notice his response to the other negative review, pointing out that patient has psychiatric problems he's been trying to help her with. Of course!).

I have been to many doctors and pain mgmt groups and Dr George is the only one that took the time and had the expertise to help me with my back pain. I recommend him to everyone now! He is so nice and extremely knowledgeable about how to pinpoint the issue and how to then help. He has also helped others I have sent to him as well. He has been a real answer to prayer!

I have been a rheumatology patient of Dr. George for over 20 years. I am a nurse and functionality is essential. He has treated me through some difficult times with care, compassion and respect. What I like most is that he listens to me as the patient, and includes me in the plan for my care. His expertise has kept me able to work and live a quality life. That’s why I say he’s “the Best.”

This is one of the worst doctors I have ever had the misfortune of meeting with.Things started off well, but I quickly realized he was misinformed about both the condition my referring physician suggested and the one in which he diagnosed me (fibromyalgia). As soon as he heard I had a history of a sleep disorder he ignored everything else I had to say and said it had to be fibro. He didn't bother to listen to the fact that I experience no muscle pain and he is using an outdated diagnostic criteria. Not to mention he put me on a muscle relaxer when my main complaint was instability. I wish I could see any other rheumatologist, sadly my insurance disagrees.

Rude, cuts you off when you speak, doesn't listen.

I have been a patient of Dr. George for 20 years! I have a rare form of Dermatomyositis and was diagnosed by the NIH. He has treated me through 3 remissions and always takes the time to listen and explain what he is doing, what he is expecting - he'll tell me as much or as little as I want to know! He has been an excellent "partner" in my health management and I cannot imagine going to any other rheumatologist! (I even continued to see him for years when I didn't have health insurance)! I've referred several other people to him - all have had the same opinion of him!

In May, we thankfully were referred to Dr George by our pediatrician after months of me trying to tell other docs in the practice that there was something wrong with my daughter. An almost 2 year old should not have to take Motrin just to be able to move in the morning. It was a very difficult appointment. Dr George told us the our daughter had juvenile idiopathic arthritis and if not treated it could be disabling. He very thoroughly explained the disease and spent an hour (after fitting us into his schedule that same day) telling us about the treatment. He assured us that she could be successfully treated and was straight forward about what we needed to do as her parents. He did not sugar coat anything and was quite serious. After meeting with him several times since then I see now that he was trying to make us understand that we HAD to follow through with all her medications and appointments so that we could have the best possible outcome for her. She is doing beautifully and… does anything (maybe more) that any other 2 year old would do. Dr. George is very thorough, caring, and takes as much time as you need to get all the facts.

I love Dr. George. I was diagnosed with a very rare disease and he was with us every step of the way. He's funny and smart. He's the best doctor I could ever ask for.

Me and my son cody met Dr.George almost a year ago.My son Cody was 9 who could barely walk.He was in so much pain. All of his joints were swollen and my son was bent over and could barely walk.Now Cody is 10 and is doing everything that normal kids are doing now days and then some.I am so glad we found Dr.George he is the most caring doctor out there.He brings a smile to your face.Dr.George is a straight forward person who tells you the truth no matter if it is good or bad.My son has JRA and is doing great.Dr.George thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you are doing for my son cody.Thank You Sherry Slick and Cody Slick.Keep up the great work because you work magic.........
