Dr. Stephen John Ilario, MD

I underwent hip replacement surgery on 11/3/2025 with Dr. Stephen John Ilario, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The surgery was intimidating, but Dr. Ilario and his team were organized, supportive, and reassuring. From the pre-surgery consultations through recovery, every member of the team treated me with respect, kindness, and professionalism. They took the time to answer my questions and ensure I understood what to expect. The level of coordination and communication was excellent. Most touching is their ongoing commitment to my care. Even months after surgery, they continue to check in with periodic wellness calls to monitor my progress. I am extremely happy with both my surgical results and the care I received. I would confidently recommend Dr. Ilario and his team to anyone in need of hip replacement surgery.

Dr. Ilario gave me a completely new left knee. From pre surgical explanations and preparation to post surgical examination and review, he gave me the information, confidence, and moral support needed to undertake and follow through with this major surgery. The operation went smoothly, and I have to remind myself that my new knee isn't the original. THANKS, Dr. Ilario!

Dr. Ilario is one of the best doctors I ever had. He listens to his patients, he is easy to talk to, answers all of your questions, seems concerned for your health and safety, he is prompt, and is very well educated in his field. He operated on my right knee (knee replacement) and within a couple of weeks, my range of motion surpassed what it should have been. I highly recommend Dr. Ilario to anyone looking for an orthopedist or orthopedic surgeon..

I had both knees (6/2024, & (6mos later) 1/2025), as well as a hip (4/2009) replacements all thanks to Dr. Ilario. Dr. Ilario’s peaceful tone of voice, expert surgical skills, bed side manner was unlike any Doctor I have ever had! Dr. Ilario, even called me personally to inform me of a cancellation in his schedule. (What Doctor does that??) I highly recommend Dr. Ilario, his team, Rehab, Kaiser, & Suburban Hospital for their expertise, they gave me great health care before, during, and after my operation. Recovery, wound healing, mobility & flexibility went perfectly. The At home PT training went so well, I was shock that I did not need PT training at Kaiser Rehab center. My family, friends & I were amazed how quickly; I bounced back into my normal routine after each surgery. While I put the knee replacements off, for way too many years, now at 78, this is the first time, I enjoy walking, & looking forward to traveling again. Thank you, Dr. Ilario for giving me my life back!

My experience with Dr. Ilario has been fantastic. I had a complete hip replacement and the results of surgery have been flawless. My hip has healed without any complications. My new hip feels stronger than my other (original) hip. In addition, he listened to my situation and acted on my individual circumstance, for this I will be forever grateful. His team is just as terrific, from the pre and post op expert nurses to the PT folks and the other doctors working with Dr Ilario, they all provided me exemplary care. Two months ago I had a total hip replacement with Dr. Stephen Ilario. My range of motion was severely restricted, and it was difficult to walk. The surgery was smooth and uneventful. I’ve had excellent outcomes – no pain and the incision was small and clean and has healed quickly. Thanks to Dr. Ilario’s expert skill and care, followed by excellent PT from Kaiser, for the first time in years I enjoy walking again. I already have increased mobility and range of motion, and am back to normal life in many ways. I highly recommend Dt. Ilario and his team and Kaiser. The surgery was at Suburban Hospital, and I have high praise for the nurses and care team there too. This was a positive experience all around. From the start, Dr. Ilario did a good job of explaining the condition of my hip and what I could expect. He was clear, and easy to follow, although he is a person of few words. I felt listened to and respected, and that he answered my questions. I realized he was attentive to details… about my hip and other health issues and tracking and catching things over the weeks before my surgery - like my low sodium level days before surgery. I sense that he goes the extra mile to ensure quality of care and see that everything is addressed. To me, this is what being patient-centered means. I also had an unexpected outcome in that I no longer limp. Dr. Ilario noticed my legs were not the same length in the pre-op appointment. I did not know he could correct that, but somehow, he did. This is no small thing to me. This was a longtime issue that predated my hip issues, so I am especially grateful and a bit in awe of his attention and skill. Another example of patient-centered care. He is gifted and does amazing work, and I would trust him again with my life. In my view, if Dr. Ilario is your surgeon, or you are deciding about orthopedic surgery, going with Dr. Ilario is an excellent choice for exceptional care. I highly recommend him.

Dr ILARIO is a Miracle Worker. I didn't expect to be walking at all . I had a total knee Replacement. I am Totally Delighted with my Progress. In less that two months I have no Pain. His Nurse at Kaiser is Phonomanal! So are the Nurses at Suburban Hospital. All Extremely Nice and Friendly .A Great Doctor and a Fantastic Team.
