Dr. Stephen Richard Kantor, MD

Excellent surgeon that truly cares for his patients. I am 7 weeks post op and pain has been minimal. The entire process from preop to postop was excellent. PT at NLH is also excellent. A patient knows in advance what the surgical process will be. I will certainly have Dr.Kantor replace my left knee in 2020. Recovery time is quick....with appropriate meds on board.

I have worked in health care for over twenty years and found Dr. Kantor and his team to be excellent in what they do. All my questions were answered and I experienced a caring and experienced team and hospital staff. I’m now five weeks out and walking fine. Had a left total knee replacement. Glad for all the pre-surgical instructions which helped prepare me for surgery and what to expect and do afterwards. New London PT therapists were exceptional as well. Looking forward to getting out on the Pickleball court soon.

I was most concerned about the pain of surgery. Yes, I used the Huddleston book regarding preparing for surgery and I had my music during surgery, but I attribute the absence of pain to Dr. Kantor's 'over the top' surgical techniques. The man was simply born to be a surgeon and I am so happy he pursued this vocation for the benefit of the rest of us!!! Stunning results.

I have long suffered with severe hip disease and have undergone over 20 procedures on my hips. I have been to see ovr 15 hip surgeons in and around New England, including going to Boston and to Dartmouth. Both of those places promised "quality and excellence" however, I was treated like a widget in a factory. Until I met Dr. Kantor! He sat with me for over 45 minutes, listened to me, examined me and came to a conclusion regarding my problem on the spot. He proposed a solution and we went for it - with great success! He looked me in the eyes, no at a computer. He treated me wiuth respect, as a person, not as a medical record number. He is exceptionally skilled in the operating room but it is his bedside manner that sets him apart from ALL OF THE REST! I would never let ANYONE else ever touch me again! GO SEE THIS MAN! Also, my experience at NEw London Hospital was nothing short of superb! Quiet, relaxing, caring environment very conducive to healing. Everyone there treats patients with… respect, with smiles and caring. Definitely not a factory. Great experience.

Dr. Kantor will always be " Super Doc " to me ! I am a retired nurse who has been around doctors all my career. Dr. Kantor just replaced my hip using the Anterior Approach and I was home the next day. He is one of the most skilled orthopedic surgeons in this country and possibly in the world. He has a great sense of humor , is caring and very courteous.an extremely likable man. There is no computer in his hands when he sees you.He sits and talks to you and listens to what you have to say. He takes his time and explains everything to you. I have never felt more confident to have the first major surgery in my 73 years . If he wasn't going to do it , then I would not have had it done. I had no problem getting an appointment and I didn't have any wait time to speak of, maybe 10 min at most. All of his staff and associates were kind, caring , courteous and helpful.There is a possibility that I may have to have my other hip done sometime in the future and I told him I would be looking for… him to do that one too. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

An outstanding surgeon, a really nice person, great sense of humor. He is a caring physician. Dr. Kantor performed bi-lateral knee replacement on me, saved my mothers infected knee from what would have probably resulted in amputation if not for his actions and replaced one of my mothers hips. I highly recommend Dr Kantor.

I had to wait a bit in the waiting room before seeing him but it was SOOO very worth it! He gave me all the time I needed to understand my problem and plan a treatment . His recent move to New London Hospital is awesome! He can continue to practice the great medicine he always had without the hustle and bustle of the factory where he used to be (at Dartmouth).

I have seen him and been a patient of two of his partners at the same medical center. The orthopedic section is of the highest caliber. He is very easy to talk to. Very kind and compassionate taking as much time as you need to ask questions and answers them in terms you can understand. No matter what he will always tell you the truth and is always available to see his own patients. He works with a great team of very experienced physician assistants which allows for him to spend more time with his patients and to see more patients in need of his expertise which is complicated hips and knees. He also has a great sense of humor which helps a great deal. I had a total knee replacement 2 years ago and it is super. I will at some time in the future need the other knee and both hips replaced, and will have Dr. Kantor do my surgery without hesitation. Trust is unconditional with this man as a surgeon and a special human being.

I had been to 5 previous surgeons for my knee problem, none of whom spent more than 5 or 10 minutes MAX with me! I just accepted that that's the way surgeons are... until I met Dr. Kantor. He spent all the time I needed to ensure we reached an accurate diagnosis for my problem, get all of my long list of questions answered and make a comprehensive treatment plan together with me. What a refreshing thing to see that this type of surgeon still exists! To boot, my surgery and its results exceeded my every expectation. I have my life back! I would recommend him to anyone needing a hip or knee surgery. 5 stars any day of the week!

I do want to share that my experience at DHMC with the orthopedic section and Dr. Kantor was and still is outstanding as I have osteoarthritis that involves all joints. A year ago, Dr. Kantor performed a total knee replacement that improved my quality of life substantially. The entire section is very professional, kind and caring showing great compassion for their patients, and they reflect the utmost respect for their partners and DHMC.
