Dr. Stephen J. Lewis, MD

I will preface this by saying I have had four Cardiologists since 1992. 19 years ago, I was referred to Dr. Lewis and in my opinion, he is among the VERY best! , if not the VERY best. I read a review that stated he wasn't interested in alternative or lifestyle approaches to heart health. Dr. Lewis, a number of times has offered treatment alternatives, to include some holistic approaches to improving MY heart health (Red Rice Yeast, CoQ10. He also shared foods that would help in improving my heart health. Additionally, when they wanted to do a valve repair, I was told by a surgeon that it would require splitting my chest. When I shared that with Dr. Lewis, he shared an idea and an ALTERNATIVE...da Vinci and referred me to an amazing surgeon. Without Dr. Lewis, my outcome would have likely been very different. As far as Dr. Lewis being rude and impersonal; I find him to be very engaging and actually very funny. He does have a "dry" sense of humor, so... As far as him… going by the book and treating the symptoms and not the patient. Well, his specialty is Cardiology and like many professions, the "book" is his guide. Whenever I am there, he asks questions and listens to my answers and then responds with what in HIS professional opinion is the BEST approach to achieve the optimum outcome. Now as far as rushed...there's a reason he's booked solid months in advance.

Very unhappy with this physician. I was a new patient. He seemed rushed and didn't want to listen to me. He wasn't interested in alternative or lifestyle approaches to heart health. I got the impression he went "by the book" and treated symptoms rather than the patient. By the way, this is a common problem with doctors... treating symptoms... so he isn't unusual in that regard. Overall I won't be seeing him again.
