Dr. Stephen Manuel Mesa, DO

Dr. Mesa has been our family physician for my entire life. I find his skills as a physician to surpass most. He is a God centered man, and it shows with his compassion and willingness to heal the sick. He DOES indeed has students in his practice, and I believe that this is reflective of his love of being a physician. It takes a lot to heal the sick and teach at the same time. I believe is experience in the field and his stories are an invaluable learning experience for the students. One cannot simply read a text book and learn, they must have hands on experience. As for his specialties, his primary specialty is family practice.

I have been a pt of Dr Mesas for about 10 years or more. He has got to be the most caring professional dr out there. I should know as I am a nurse also. I have not been his patient but also employee. Yes he does have medical students,he does love teaching/spends as much time as needed with each and every patient. He remembers your family,even if they are not patients of his. He always asks how they are. He staff is very professional and well versed in the many aspects of his practice. If he does not know what is wrong with you, he will send you to a specialist. He has no problem asking someone else for an opinion. Cares for pt from pediatrics to geriatrics. Yes he does specialize in sports medicine, he volunteered his time with local high schools to help out. He is family oriented and if you want a GREAT doctor then go see Dr Mesa.

His specialty is sports medicine. I'm sure, pretty well versed in that field, but he has a GP's clientele . Fine for all the little stuff but it presents a problem to any patient who needs a diagnosis of anything less ordinary. He usually has med students in the room with him. And it seems, as their mentor, he is more concerned about impressing them with his own expertise than in training them. He shows and tells but seldom asks the student for input. Or ask them anything, I believe. It is usually "in my thirty years" or "as long as I've been a doctor" that he professes that, in essence, "hoof-beats always mean horses, never Zebras". A nice guy who is, sometimes, a CATASTROPHE as a doctor. Patient with complaints out of the ordinary risk that anything Mesa is not familiar with will be labeled with a psychosomatic illness. He should learn more, listen more, and stop minimizing patient complaints. Somebody is gonna die on his watch because of his skepticism.
