Dr. Stephen Lewis Schmidt, MD

Family Physicians of Evans-Great medical office, wonderful and warm experience from start to finish. Appreciate Dr. Schmidt taking time to go over the diagnosis clearly and treatment options. He is attentive, kind and very knowledgeable. Was referred over by my Gastroenterologist and can see why. Highly recommended.

He had been my PCM for 5 yrs. He would often forget to put routine lab orders related to monitoring my medical condition. Last straw was when I tried to see him for knee pain that would not go away. He had to cancel my scheduled appointment, yet still without any evaluation felt okay with prescribing a medication that I would have had a severe allergic reaction to. Even after asking about it, he responded it would be okay. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Schmidt has been the physician for both of my parents for the past few years and has provided a level of care that is nothing short of excellent. He took the time to look deeper at what other doctors could have passed off as minor complaints and found that there were more complex medical issues that needed attention. He quite literally saved my mom's life and is now in the process of uncovering some medical problems and helping my dad get through them. I am so grateful he's at the center of their care. His expertise, his bedside manner, his concern for his patients all gives me great comfort especially since I live on the other side of the country and cannot be there myself.

My Mom recently needed A urinalysis done. The sample was taken in at a timely manner but the results were never charted, so therefore a prescription was never called in the same day. The on-call doctor finally called me back after one hour which is unacceptable. Dr. Schmidt was called also. He called me back and said he had no record of anything concerning my mom and a urinalysis. I questioned the office procedures and he told me if I did not feel comfortable with his office then I should take my Mom elsewhere! My mom has been his patient over 10 years. He be rated me on the phone and told me that he was not even on call that night. I did not ask for him to be called but I would expect all of the doctors in the group to work as a team. I felt that he had no compassion for my mom and was only concerned about himself and his reputation. When all the facts were gathered, the ball was dropped in his office. The urinalysis was taken in and done but never charted on my mom‘s file. This… is unacceptable practice. I understand mistakes happen, but would have appreciated him being understanding and willing to admit the mistake instead of making me feel like a second-class citizen and not putting my mom’s health first. I did get a call from his nurse the next morning apologizing for what happened. I know I will never hear an apology from Dr. Schmidt. So very disappointed in what took place. I read a previous review which was very true. It said if you were looking for someone to hold your hand, in other words, have compassion for your loved one even if they are not on call, don’t go to Dr. Schmidt.

I feel blessed to have Dr. Stephen L Schmidt as my doctor. I like his no nonsense way of talking to me. I am very comfortable bringing up my health issues with him. He was a referred for my mother-in-law on her visits with us. With medicare kicking in for my I didn't hesitate to request to be his patient. My husband has become his patient as well. We feel Dr Schmidt wants us to be actively responsible for our health. We come for our checkups and when we have a problem--not sniffles and want to whine to somebody.

Miss him as my basic doctor that everyone should have and deserves. Knows his medicine !

I have no co complaints or or reservations about his abilities as a physician. He is very very professional and takes time to address all my concerns . He gets a 10 in my book.

Dr. Schmidt was recommended by my gastroenterologist and I am very pleased with the recommendation. Dr. Schmidt is knowledgeable, kind and considerate of his patients and answers patient's questions in as much detail as you need.

Worst excuse for a doctor. I wouldn't send my dog or mother n law to him. Give false diagnosis everything. I give him one star for being a vet. Which I highly applause.
