poor communication--poor treatment--no concept of patient teaching--waste of time--must find a different doctor as soon as possible.

It’s been years, but as I sit here dealing with TMJ, I’m reminded of my initial diagnosis from Dr. Segebrecht. I went in for a blocked salivary gland and found out reading my patient portal later he’d diagnosed me with this and said nothing. I mention should also mention I prepaid for surgery for my blocked salivary gland but then passed it on my own and went back to confirm if everything was good to go. He said he couldn’t tell for sure that I’d passed everything and said we could do an x-ray, and since I’d prepaid, they would just refund me the difference. I thought, “Okay, better safe than sorry.” The person who did my X-Ray at LMH was wonderful but completely confused as to why I was sent there for one. He confirmed there was no blockage. I later received a $1,000 bill from LMH, more than twice the cost of the surgery for which I’d prepaid. I would have just let him cut me open to check had I known the cost difference. Dr. Segebrecht’s office did not apply any of my prepayment to… this cost. I paid it out of pocket and had to contact them when, several months later, they still had not refunded me for the prepayment. When I finally received my money back, they had taken the specialist fee out of it for my second visit where Dr. Segebrecht did nothing but send me off for an X-Ray. Fine, I was there for 10 minutes, take my money, but after that kind of care, I really didn’t feel it was worth it.

He tried an experimental technique burning my soft palate three times with no benefit but excruciating pain which has lasted many years. I am still suffering from his ineptitude; his inability to seek viable and medically acceptable alternatives. A simple C-pap saved my life.

Dr. Segebrecht performed a canal wall down mastoidectomy on me in 1989, after I had had four other canal wall up procedures in five years that did not prevent a new cholesteatoma from forming or recurrent ear infections. It took about a year for my ear to settle down completely and it has never bothered me since. I have no drainage, the ear is virtually self-cleaning--I've only seen a ENT to check in maybe 3-4 times in 29 years, because my ear looks great. I have titanium ossicles and my hearing is almost normal, just 15-20 decibels off in the upper tones and normal otherwise., and my hearing is very good considering. Dr Segrebecht took time with me as a patient, and was very direct and thorough in what he planned to do and why. I never had any health problems before my cholesteatoma, and I've never had any since, largely due to Dr. Segebrecht resolving this issue for me.

Dr. Segebrecht spent a long time in the room with me disuccusing my care and treatment plan. I was worried about the amount of time he was spending with me but he told me not to worry about that. He was concerend about me and said that he wanted to make sure I understood what was going on and what I needed to do. I appreciate the time he spent with me. I know I took up more time than what was given to me but that didn't matter to Dr. Segebrecht. I really liked at the end of my appoinmtnet he offered to pray for my healing. I thought this was awesome. I wasn't sure how this was going to go but it was very simple we just had a moment of silence and then after a minute he said Amen, shook my hand and we were done. I loved how he brought in his spirituality at the end, I know that he believes in a much higher power than just man and medicine which means a lot to me. As I was leaving the room and he was entering the next room he politely apologized about running behind which I… think was very professional. A man who truely cares about his patients and their needs.
