Dr. Steven S Isono

Where do I start? Lets just say I miss Dr. Isono. After moving back to San Diego from the Bay Area, my lawyer, as well as myself, have been looking for a Orthopedic Surgeon. So far so bad. I realize every Dr is different and excels in different areas in regards to communication, treatments, etc. Dr. Isono by far blows everyone out of the water. His communication was excellent. He shows you with props what is going on with the injured area (my case the knee). He visually shows you the results of X-rays, MRI's and explains in simple terms whats going on, how it happened or what could've caused the injury, treatment solutions, and most of all he asks what you (the patient) wants to do. When I needed surgery (2012), again, he explained in detail how it was going to happen. He asked me if I had any questions or concerns after EVERY visit. Surgery day he was the same like he was in the office. Explained step by step who is doing what, what hes going to be doing, and… reassured me everything was going to be fine. Surgery went well, post surgery went exactly like he explained and the time lines of the healing process were right on the dot. I couldn't have asked for a better Orthopedic surgeon. I just wished he relocated to San Diego :) Unfortunately, my knee pain came back and I have visited 2 Dr's here in the San Diego area. First one was a fail, the Dr was more of a joke. The second one I'm currently seeing I'm starting to be very skeptical of. We got the results of my MRI and as soon as I sat down he opens my file reads the report and immediately says I need surgery. All this without me seeing the image of the MRI and not once did he explain what was going on. He was just more concerned on when I could do the surgery. This was a total 180 of what Dr. Isono would have done with me. If I could, I'd go back to Dr. Isono in a heartbeat so much I'd drive or fly back to the Bay Area every time I had an appointment or if I needed a procedure done. No disrespect to Dr's, but some are like a dime in a dozen. Dr. Isono (to me) stands alone on a higher level. I was lucky to have him as my Dr and wish there was a way I could go back to him (unfortunately its a WC case). I highly doubt Dr. Isono reads these comments or if they ever get back to him but .......Dr. Isono, your the best and thank you for everything you've done for me. Every patient of yours is extremely lucky to have you as their Dr.
