Dr. Steven Joel Arsht, MD

A fine orthopedist I guess, but he seems to have suddenly decided to stop accepting all health care marketplace insurance AND will not see patients who pay privately. I can sort of understand the former, but why the latter? And if you think this means you can't book an appointment indicating you're paying privately, think again! You absolutely can - but then someone from the office will unilaterally cancel it a few hours later without a proper explanation. Then you get to navigate the nightmarish Mt. Sinai system to try to find out why! If the practice doesn't want to see private-pay patients, figure out how to prevent them from booking appointments with you rather than wasting peoples' time with confusing after-the-fact cancellations.

I saw Dr. Arsht after a hip dislocation following hip replacement surgery (he did not perform the surgery). Dr. Arsht was knowledgeable, practical, empathetic and patient. During the exam, he noticed swelling in my lower leg and immediately arranged for a doppler test, then called me himself the same evening with the results. He came up with a comprehensive forward-looking plan for my recovery and I am making excellent progress.

What a delightful experience. My condition was far from life threatening yet Dr. Arsht was very comforting. He did not put me through any unnecessary testing.

Monday made appointment for Thursday,no really waiting time.Check me out with a jocks ,gave shot of cortison and pain is gone for now.Treat me like I am his good friend.Scheduled MRI appointment--have no problems just a pleasure!!

I was involved in a bike accident this spring, and visited Dr. Arsht's office with a broken collarbone. If it was not enough that the fact his financial well-being takes precedence over the well-being of his patients was made VERY apparent, he also proceeded, to my shock, to make judgmental & superficial comments based on appearance. My accident involved a NYPD police van, which developed into a no-fault case. His office made it very clear that they are not interested in taking on no-fault cases. Thanks to my lawyer, I was redirected to much better care with Dr. Lon Weiner of Lenox Hill Hospital. I am very well into recovery, and feel much gratitude towards his attention & care. And everyone marvels at the splendid job he has done with the surgery. I'll proudly wear my scar for the rest of my life. But I assure you, it's a very pretty one :)

Everything about my experience with both this Dr. and his office was frustrating and shocking. When I arrived no one took my vital signs, a typical protocol in caring thoughtful Dr.s offices. Dr. Arsht spent a maximum of five minutes with me, was dismissive of my knee pain and said "two weeks of PT then schedule surgery" A pretty quick judgement, given they had not yet taken an MRI. The office never bothered to call me back with the results of the MRI and when I tried to call them it took nine phone calls to hear what turned out to be a misdiagnosis by the physician's assistant. The Dr. himself never bothered to speak with me. After I cancelled my follow-up appointment I received no less than seven calls reminding me of the cancelled appt. The office sent an incomplete set of records to my new Dr's office and it has taken me dozens of phone calls to try and rectify this. This was a terrible experience all around and caused me weeks of delay in getting relief from a knee injury. I would… never recommend this office or the Dr. to anyone. There is something seriously wrong with the way this practice is being run.

Doctor Arsht has performed three knee operations on me within a 15 month time period. Dr. Arsht kept in contact with me and made sure the rehabilitation was a successful one. I am now back playing competitive ice hockey and feel no knee pain. I would recommend Dr. Arsht to anyone looking for a caring, qualified surgeon willing to go above and beyond.

Dr. Arsht is my hero. He is a great listener and did not jump to any conclusions until he first reviewed my MRI. Overall, I find him to be conservative, yet practical in his approach. We spoke about my overall activity level with regard to my injury. My knee is better than ever and has been since day one of my surgery. The difference is amazing. I still need to do some more rehabilitating, but feel like a new woman!

I know my injury very well. I had surgery almost 8 years ago and know the limits of my knee. When I was re-injured last year, I went to Dr. Arsht. He is very personable and obviously has the knowledge necessary for his job. He made me think that he would be a great help. But I was wrong. His team overcharged for a simple office visit and didn't seem to care about me afterward. I wonder if he ever even listened. When I complained about the cost, his assistant said, "Sorry ma'am, it's just the code we use." I explained that this was fraudulent (charging for a procedure that never happened) and asked to speak to the doctor (which I never got to do). And when I asked the assistant, "Do you think 5 minutes of Dr. Arsht's time is worth $1,000?" well, she was stumped. I do NOT recommend Dr. Arsht.Oh yeah, and when I FINALLY got some physical therapy out of them (not like I wanted a prescription for drugs!), they told me to follow up with one of Dr. Arsht's colleagues. A.K.A. "Never come… back." I'm fine with that.
