Dr. Cathey has performed two operations on me for spinal cord injury in the neck. He did a great job both times. Arkansas Surgical Hospital where he practices is more like a five-star hotel than a hospital. Dr. Cathey and I have become good friends over the years. I have to see him once a year for followups. For Neurosurgery I wouldn't let anybody else in the metro area touch me.

Jumped through all the hoops, prior testing, mri of neck and spine, pt, waited years to be referred by a neurologist for chronic back and nerve pain to be hurried through like cattle. Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I was looking for answers as to why my neck pain and lower back pain is progressively worse, get the issues addressed and work on resolving them or at least get some relief but left with with nothing . Very discouraged and frustrated with the care received from "specialists" if it's not clear cut with a straight fix ex. surgery, they don't waste their time. Refer you out to someone else.

After MRI, x-rays and CAT scans including a month in excruciating pain from several different spinal conditions, I drove over two hours to meet with this man in hopes of getting the surgery I was told by other doctors at both my clinic and the emergency room that I needed, to have him walk in, introduce himself and tell me there was nothing wrong with my spine and he could do nothing to help me. He asked me why I was in a wheelchair and I told him it was because my condition had worsened to the point I could no longer walk and he asked if I was working or on disability. I told him "no" that I was not and did not wish to be disabled. He replied again he could not help me and said "go get on disability". Really? Just after saying nothing was wrong with me? Indicating to me he felt I was some kind of slacker looking for disability with nothing wrong! I was insulted enough by his cold demeanor. He did not examine me at all. When I asked him what about the report from the radiologists he… replied, "That report is garbage!" When I repeated his opinion, he said, well, "I highly disagree." He led me into the hallway to confirm his opinion by taking a look at my MRI and showed me a spine so perfect, as he also noted "perfect", that I knew it was not mine. When I called him back after much shock and confusion, and even called the MRI clinic and acquired a copy of the same MRI disc and viewed it again as I had the first before taking it to him personally, I asked his secretary to please ask him to be certain my name was on that MRI. She said they would "Look into it" and never returned my call. Before my visit, I called, got no phone tree but a personal, immediate answer, was given the doctor to speak with, not on one, but two occasions, had immediate call backs, etc. My belief is that this man made a judgement call on my appearance, the fact I had state paid insurance, and that he did not wish to take me as a case, just see me so that he could bill the insurance for which he was judging me! Ironically, unknowingly, I got a second opinion from a neurosurgeon who I later discovered was his partner in a neurological hospital elsewhere and that surgeon told me exactly the opposite and confirmed all the reports. I believe his actions and comments state his inaccurate findings without question. That he reported back to my PCP I "appeared already in a wheelchair, was overweight and smoked" as his primary impression pretty well sums it up for me! He cares nothing of the person, judges them unfairly yet has no problem taking money from their insurance for a visit he knows in advance of their time and travel to see him he will be telling them he cannot help them and nothing is wrong with them.

I drove 3 hours to see this horses butt and he couldn't even spend 30 seconds in the room with me. He walked in and said "I can't help you. You're a workmans comp case." I said no I'm not I'm self employed. He said "well your not making any money if you're not working so I can't help you." He then turned around and walked out the door. I was very upset and in misery from driving 3 hours to see this jackarse only to turn around and drive 3 hours home with no answers. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR TO ANYONE.

Super doctor, very conservative, will not rush to do surgery.

Doc. did a fushion on my neck 10 years ago and I have had no problems!!!!!!!!!! Awsome job !! Thank You Doc for all you did for me !!!!!!!

Amazing doctor and staff

Dr Cathey, is great, he looked at my MRI and knew just what I was experiencing as far as pain. He told me why to expect from the surgery. It was my L4 & L5 pinching a nerve, he explained what to expect and that I would have a small incision. This is the second day after surgery, I feel great. Sore, but I have no pain as before. Dr Cathey is a true blessing. I would highly recommend him to everyone

This clinic is one of the best! Dr. Cathey is a very professional doctor. I would recommend him to anyone needing his specialty of care. His staff is well organized and also very professional.
