Dr. Steven Robert Garfin, MD

I'm 48 years old and was a patient of Dr. Garfin for the majority of my teenage life. I broke quite a few bones (legs and arms.) He even caught me playing basketball in my "legboot" after he had casted it. My Mom was not happy with me. My Parents were best friends with the Garfins, as they lived in the same neighborhood. He's an extremely intelligent man, but also combines that with a patience and ability to listen to other's needs. You are not going to find a better doctor, period.

I OWE THIS SURGEON MY LIFE..back in 1991 I was admitted to UCSD trauma center with severe trauma to my spine/neck. due to Auto accident..I was in a coma/ and told I would never walk again and was paralyzed from neck down..One night, near Xmas Dr Garfin comes in and tells me he is trying some experimental procedure with Titanium rods to stabilize the spine and he gave me 1% or walking again..I took the chance, he did the surgery..After, a Halo, spine surgery,grueling pain and therapy to regain the ability to walk and eat again on my own. After 4 mos of Physical Therapy..i was able to walk out, on my own from the Hospital...I owe him, and the heavenly powers that guide his hands, my last 25 yrs of being able to walk again and see my children grow up without being a burden to my family....I OWE HIM THE ABILITY TO HAVE WALKED AGAIN.......now after 33 yrs...iam returning to him, due to severe pain and spinal stenosis, something he told me I would have after time had passed.....I know he… will do his best to see I can continue to walk and have a comfortable life, almost free of pain..

After 8 back surgeries that each made my back pain worse, Dr Garfin literally saved my life. Previously I was in so much pain that I used 300 mg of oxycontin per day for over 4 years and still had pain that made life miserable. There is no better back surgeon than Dr Garfin and his associate, Dr R Todd Allen was also a wonderful surprise. I thank God for these two men. BTW, stay away from OxyContin or be prepared for months of agonizing withdrawals.

Dr. Garfin operated on me a couple years back . . . I was nearly crippled in pain from L4-5 issues. I am feeling great now. You couldn't pick a better person to heal you.

I have had three failed back surgeries. After Dr. Garfin performed the fourth surgery I now know if any other surgeon had performed my surgery I would be confined to a wheel chair. Dr. Garfin is one of the kindest human beings and I am so proud that he is my doctor. My surgery was a year and a half ago and Dr. Garfin still sees me every two months. I would recommend anyone considering back surgery to see Dr. Garfin. He has given me back my life and for that I am so grateful.
