Meet Dr. Steven Kane, MD, FAAO
Steven Kane, MD, FAAO is a Board Certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. Born and raised in Venice Florida, Dr. Kane is proud to offer the latest innovations in eye care to his hometown. He is an expert in laser cataract surgery, LASIK, refractive lens exchange, and cornea transplant. Dr. Kane uses the latest advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques. He is also passionate about teaching and helps train US and international surgeons to perform cataract surgery, ocular surface surgery, and cornea transplant.
Dr. Kane is involved in translational research, helping bring new technology into clinical practice. He is an advisor and faculty for Lions World Vision Institute and helped develop a micro-incisional DMEK technique. He also was the lead surgeon for a novel minimally invasive “no touch” DSAEK technique. Dr. Kane helped develop and introduce a novel cornea …micro-puncture device called Plexitome into clinical practice. He is an expert in Fuchs’ endothelial disease, and is published in peer-reviewed journals in addition to a textbook chapter in Yankoff on corneal disease.
Dr. Kane is the founder of his practice Tailored Eyes in Venice, Florida. He is a certified Spanish-English interpreter and helped found a medical interpreter program during medical school. He was a scholar-athlete, graduated summa cum laude from William and Mary, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then graduated Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and cornea fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
For his compassionate patient care, he was inducted by his professors and peers at the University of Florida into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2016. Dr. Kane is married to Amanda and they have three children. Dr. Kane enjoys running and triathlons, snow skiing, and tinkering with his car in his spare time.
