Dr. Steven Peter Miller

Straight shooter and very direct. I appreciate that.

Not long ago, I visited Steven Miller for approximately one year, give or take a few months. If I could give him a zero, I would because he doesn't deserve a one. He was ice cold...brrr- right down to the point where he wouldn't let me look at or touch his dog. Which obviously he's trying to make into something into his own image. He prescribed a couple of different medications which did not work for my illnesses, one of them being an SSRI. When I started to develop severe problems in which I became more of an observer rather than a participant in life, he only wanted to add more medication when I was over the the recommended amount of medication. When I tried to talk to him about my symptoms and my hesitancy to try another medication in addition to the high dose of SSRI, he replied "do you want to do what I prescribe or do you want to find another doctor". I thought for a few minutes realizing I could die if I stayed as his patient. At which time, I fired him as my psychiatrist. … Afterwards when seeing a more qualified and gentle psychiatrist, I found out that I was in serotonin storm and I could have indeed taken my own life because during that, you are beyond feeling pain - you don't feel anything. As a "top psychiatrist" with different awards, you'd think he would be educated enough to recognize serotonin storm and know how dangerous it is. This is what an unqualified psychiatrist Steven Miller really is. I trusted him in the beginning but I would not recommend him to a soul, partly because of this experience and his rude, unkind, uncaring demeanor. I don't know how he even still has a license to practice

My experience with Dr. Miller has been exactly what I expected. I know that psychiatrists focus on medication. They do not spend time talking about the source of your predicament. I have a therapist that I talk with. Dr. Miller has prescribed a new and effective therapy for my anxiety and depression. I am significantly better off than I was before I went in. Treatment of depression and anxiety take time, and I feel confident that Dr. Miller will provide me the best medication alternative. His office policies are clear. As a patient, I know what my responsibilities to treatment are, and I know how his style of treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Miller as a psychiatrist.

"Dr." Miller has one goal - and that's to get your credit card number and a check from your insurance company. He couldn't care less about helping you besides writing a prescription for meds. He's rude, condescending, and has absolutely no conversation skills. Don't waste your time or money with him. Go anywhere else besides Dr. Miller and you've made a good choice! Really.

If you want to sit around and feel sorry for yourself then do so. If you have a chemical imbalance that cripples your life. Go see Dr. Miller. Dr. Miller is a very direct and talented doctor. If you do not want to take your meds then look for another Doctor. Not that he has ever said that to me. That is my opinion after years of struggling with bipolar. But he has mixed me a "cocktail" that works for my bipolar. I am not surprised that he is in the Top 100 Doctors for his specialty. His office is a little hard to find but worth it. Took me a little bit to adjust to 20 minute med check appointments but I have adjusted and it is the standard now. He is great a working through all the paperwork. I can reach him better than any Psychiatrist I have ever had. And yes he diagnoses from behind his desk. Did you want him in your lap? And as far as his dress: This is Boulder County for god sakes.He dresses fine. And as far as my insurance company being billed. Bill away! He also has a very… reasonable cash pay price. (Check out Boulder) Just responding to some prior posts. Do not let his no fooling around demeanor fool you.... He has a heart of gold.

I agree with many of the prior reviews. He was rude and borderline abusive. He refused to give medical advice after telling me to stop taking a medication a prior psychiatrist had prescribed, and telling me I have a condition (diagnosed from behind his desk) that I should see a doctor for. (I did, and I DO NOT have that condition.) At my last appointment, after scolding me at length for being a few minutes late, he asked me my height and weight "to make the insurance company happy." That way he could charge it as a medication consultation AND an office visit for more money. He should NOT be in practice. If I could give him zero stars, I would.

If you need to have a prescription for meds, this guy will gladly dish it out. But don't expect any kind of conversation - casual or therapeutical- as his appointments consist entirely of him reading questions directly from his computer screen. If you interrupt or start talking about something else, he will stop you. He'll answer questions, but short and concise. Like I said, don't expect any kind of therapy or for him to offer any information other than what's on his computer screen. Overall, he's borderline rude and disrespectful, he answers his phone during appointments, and in order to refill prescriptions, he'll require frequent appointments which consist of him reading the same questions off of his computer screen and will last about five minutes. He appears to be a classic case of a doctor who is in it for the money and not to sincerely help people, other than freely writing prescriptions. I go there because I need medication and that's what I got. If you need conversation or… therapy, go somewhere else.

I agree with past reviewers- Dr. Miller is acerbic, abrupt, nice decor. I also noticed recently his silk ties, button up shirts and sweater vests; I think he truly thinks that he is House. the problem is he has put me down in so many different ways over the last 2 yrs I finally realized he was making me feel worse, more depressed and crazy than I actually was. as a mental patient, I told him sometimes I talk to myself & I asked him if any of his other patients did that because I was worried about it; his answer? "no I've never heard of that" to me that is the most ridiculous answer and it's not even true. Lots of regular people talk to themselves and lots of crazy people do as well. here are some favorite quotes from visits and over the phone "you are my worst patient" "I could chase your problems until the end of my retirement and still not find a solution for you". Most recently he tried to fire me through my pharmacist when I called for a refill: the head pharmacist where I go… reported to me his direct quote to her "I am tired of all of my patients trying to refill too soon if they don't like it they can find another doctor" it would almost seem plausible if he just was talking about me however he was talking about all of his patients to this pharmacist. She told me in a previous conversation that he was mean and hateful to their staff and this is at a pharmacy in a quality discount store superstore. additionally my primary care dr recently asked me how has Dr Miller been treating you? I didn't say much and then he said "well the reason I ask is because I'm getting a lot of complaints from my patients" When I called Dr Millers billing office one time to make a payment I asked the billing person if she would alert Dr Miller to my payment As I had an appointment with him next morning and his computer systems don't connect with his billing office even though he will take your credit card payment himself, I said he is very particular can you please make sure he knows I made a payment.... her answer? yeah, tell me about it. My pharmacist, patients at my primary care doctor and his own billing office dont seem keen on him. Dr Miller needs some suede elbow patches on a button up wool long sleeve sweater and be good to go, just like House. Too bad that instead of charming helpful intelligent kind and really caring you're just a repressed homosexual that's not pleased that in his later working years he has mental patients coming into his home and I think he decided it wasn't such a great decision; may have been a dream, lifelong but just not workin out.... I see a lot of scared unhappy patients coming in and out of there, And they look just how I felt when I was his patient: ready (or not) for my tongue lashing. 100% happier and off of all the meds. I'm just wondering does it really take a degree in psychiatry to ask are you feeling stable are you having thoughts of suicide do you feel okay in society and then he writes the script and off you go, 15 minutes per appointment, eight until noon and if you try to pick up your prescription after the hours of 8 AM and noon and he has messed up your prescription and you need to call him well you better watch out because his rules are ..do all of your Personal business in regards with him including filling prescriptions Monday through Friday between 8 AM and noon and I got a Super lashing when I had to call him when he made a mistake, at 3pm. he said when are you going to get it through your head you need to take care of your personal business during hours I dictated in my office manual that you signed????? I'm sorry I work for a living I can't get to the pharmacy During those hours and he made a mistake on something that I would have had a seizure if i could not did not fill correctly,p.o.s. Wait I just remembered Dr. Miller does indeed have a sweater with the suede patches he also has a Labrador retriever to go along with the image but don't ever make the mistake of coming into his home office while he is outside of his dungeon downstairs, & he's upstairs pouring coffee that will embarrass him and make him very angry you better watch for him if he's upstairs close the door until he retreats and go back in.....

Give me a break. I would not go back to this guy if he was the last shrink on earth and I needed a refill. He cares about one person - himself. Do not mistake him for someone who cares about you. Oh - I take that back. You would never mistake him as someone who cares about you because it is obvious he does not. Fortunately I have another guy I see and I will stick with him. I only went to miller because I I needed someon on my insurance. Now I know why he takes insurance - no one who has to pay out of pocket would ever go back to see him a second time. I 'd rather go broke paying out of pocket for a good shrink than to see him.

I started seeing Dr.Miller in 1981 as my counselor. I found him to be insightful, & professional & able to keep me on track. He really helped me understand probs with my 16 year old son as well as work with my anxiety disorder & depression. Since 1990 He has managed my medications. He is the smart person's Shrink! Highly recommend.
