Dr. Steven L Mullis, MD

This is a well run, well-organized practice with a high degree of competence, training, and credentialing amongst staff.

I have given this overall rating because of accounting decisions. I have visited this office for a number of years and love PA DeVries. However, because doctor does not want to deal with Medicare Advantage plans he will not take my insurance. Gave a bunch of reasons, but none are really valid. Also, has instituted a $250 annual retainer for all patients that is not payable by insurance and is non-refundable. Again, no valid reason, just interested in treating fewer patients without losing any revenue. Very disappointed. Obviously, I am shopping for a new doctor.

I have been going to Dr. Mullis for more than 16 years. His bedside manner is better than any other doctor I have seen. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. Dr. Mullis will listen to you and never hurries you. When I get really sick they always seem to squeeze me in.

Great doctor, but they never answer their phones. And then when I left them a voicemail, they called didn't call me back at the number I left in the message, so I missed the call and had to call back (which they didn't answer). Also, I had a physical scheduled for a few months (which is how long I had to wait for one to be available) and then the day before they cancelled because the doctor wasn't going to be in. Terrible customer service.

Great doctor

For over 5 years I trusted this doctor implicitly in spite of frequent and proven medication errors to local pharmacies; the inability to speak with him except during my appointment time; and the abject failure to have an emergency weekend call returned. His staff is questionable at best (their medical qualifications were never defined). This doctor appears caring on the surface but, like another reviewer of this doctor, I found myself without any medical care for my numerous and serious medical conditions (that he admits needs close monitoring) shortly after I voiced concerns regarding the actions of a member of his staff. I was discharged (by letter) without any notice and without recommendation to another MD in spite of the serious nature of my medical history. These unethical actions are defined as medical abandonment and failure to provide continuity of care. Both are violations of the AMA and State of Florida Code of Medical Ethics and Quality Assurance. As a patient you will… have no recourse against this (or any) doctor who acts in this manner as they have your medical and personal history and will not hesitate to use it against you should you voice a valid complaint. I fully regret the years I wasted trusting this physician as it is difficult to begin anew when you are a senior citizen with serious illnesses that need to be closely monitored. If your medical conditions are complex, I suggest you continue searching for an MD who makes himself available after office hours. This doctor does not return calls to his patients (per his staff) during or after office hours nor does his on-call service do so on weekends, as I recently learned. Finally, as he does not admit patients to either local hospital, I cannot recommend him to anyone in need of professional, ethical medical services.

Steven Mullis, M.D. is extremely intelligent, caring and patient-oriented. He shows a genuine interest in the patient and has a tremendous amount of expertise. Our area is fortunate to have an M.D. with his capabilities.

My only complaint has been waiting a few minutes longer than I would want to, but then I see why he may run a few minutes behind. He has excellent bedside manner and spends as much time as YOU need to fell comfortable about the direction YOU want to take with your medical treatment.

It felt like he really cared about me and as a patient with multiple problems it meant a lot that he was willing to listen to me earnestly. He valued my input as a patient and allowed me flexibility with my treatments and medications. I didn't have insurance and he was very patient with the numerous forms that needed to be filled out for my prescription assistance programs to aid with the high prices medications that I require. He even took the time to look up my various ailments and hold informed conversations with me about the routes I could take and what I should expect in the future.Then, after reportedly missing 3 appointments, I showed up for the next appointment that they scheduled me for and his AWFUL office assistant HELEN rudely told me that he wouldn't see me even after I drove all that way. They could have at least called and told me it wasn't necessary to come in. He wouldn't talk to me or even come out to explain or apologize. I was crushed. I thought i'd finally found… someone who would help me after 7 years of dealing with unfeeling, incompetent, rude doctor after awful doctor. It was a cruel slap in the face.To top things off he was in the middle of treating me for a SERIOUS INFECTION. Having Lupus, neglecting to treat this infection caused me to get even more ill. I was forced to rush to find the doctor who would see me the soonest who ended up to be severely sub-par. The doctor knew nothing about my history as HELEN neglected time and again to fail to fax the new practice my medical records. When I requested them myself she said that it would be 50 cents a page to print out my file which i should have a right to.I then received a disgustingly impersonal letter a couple days later requesting that I never again come on Cypress Medical premises as I had formally been dismissed as a patient. It was a pre-made dismissal form where someone else placed an X in the spot next to the reason and Dr. Mullis scribbled his signature next to an identical X at the bottom. I doubt he even read it.So, be careful. Don't get too invested in Dr. Mullis. You think that he cares about you and your illness. He and his staff absolutely do not. They are in it for profit just like every other business. Dr. Mullis is just an incredibly charming, convincing liar. His office staff is excessively incompetent. A pudgy asian girl named HELEN in particular. I requested that HELEN fax items and make telephone calls on my behalf to facilitate things such as additional treatment with other practices that my life depends on. Failing to file or fax my prescription assistance programs that allowed me to get my medication at little or no price. Even little things like simply composing a dr's note for my work was seemingly too complex for her to complete. I believe that she was just as begrudging as she was incompetent. While i was never rude to her, she was ALWAYS snippy and awful to me. It often put a damper on the at the time wonderful visits with Dr. Mullis at the time.His P.A. Ashley also has little to no idea what she is doing. I often had to walk her through diagnosing me. She would then take the information I provided and recommended prescription out to interrupt Dr. Mullis while he was with another patient, leaving me to wait for long periods, just to come back with what I had asked for. She knew nothing about the spectrum of illnesses from which i suffer and made no effort to though I had been a very faithful patient for 3 years. I don't know how she continues her employment there.The only person that is genuine and worthwhile in that whole practice is Tiffany, the R.N.

Dr. Mullis, in my opinoin, is terrific. The qualities that he has that make him such an outstanding Dr. are: great listening skills and he does NOT rush through the appointment. He acts like you are the only person he is seeing on that day. He truely cares about you and will always take the time to research answers to questions. We hit the jackpot when we called his office for an appointment. How lucky we were! His office staff is always so friendly and cares about you. Thank you Dr. Mullis and your office staff, for taking the time with your patients.
