Dr. Steven Michael Passman, MD

He told me I had a rash. That was it... nothing else. No treatment, not suggestions, nothing. There’s more. But, I can’t discuss it. I’ll let my insurance deal with him. He’s the lowest rated dermatologist in our area. He’s rude, condescending, and inadequate. I‘m sorry I ever met him.

I drove 3.5 hours for this appointment. I have insurance but did not have the number, it is still processing with the company. I spoke to my insurance who assured them they will be paid, but it might be a few weeks. They would only see me if I fully paid for the appointment out of pocket. VERY POOR patient care and front desk staff.

I have been to Dr Passman's office about 4 or 5 times in the past 4 years (have actually seen him only once) and the front desk staff has always been LESS than friendly. Today's treatment "took the cake" though ,if you will. My appt was at 2:20, with a PA, and I was running a bit late. I called to let the office know I was just a couple of blocks away and was rudely informed "not to be any later than 2:25". I pulled up out front, at 2:24 by the clock in my truck, and rushed in. Had to wait on the elevator (of course) and walked into his office a minute or two (I figured) later. There was 4 people in line, checking in and out, so I waited, approximately, another minute before being greeted. Once I gave my name and they pulled my chart from a stack on the desk, the "receptionist" informed me that I'd have to reschedule as the PA was already busy with the patient that was scheduled after me. She then went on to say that "she's already double booked (what else is new?!) and seeing you… would put her more behind". I told her I'd called, just a bit before arriving, to say I'd be late and she said "I know you did but I told you to be here by no later than 2:25 . You walked in here at 2:28 because I looked at the clock when you came thru the door. You're 8 minutes late so we'll need to reschedule you." (How many times have any of us waited, past our scheduled appt time, to be seen? Different story there huh? ) Mind you, there was a waiting room full of people who were listening to her "scold me" by now and that did it for me! I told her that I "apparently need to 'schedule' myself with a NEW doctor because your treatment of me is rude and unprofessional!" I've worked for doctors, in the same position as this "girl", for YEARS and if I (or any of the other front desk staff) had spoke to a patient like that, we'd have been fired on the spot. At the last office I worked (there were 8 doctors and 6 mid levels..extremely busy all the time) patients would sometimes show up 20 to 30 minutes late and were always seen! Very disappointed, but sadly..not surprised, at this shoddy treatment. I will NOT go back!

If you want someone who really knows what he’s doing and doesn’t “beat about the bush” when giving medical information. Dr. Passman is the go-to guy. I’ve been going to him for decades and he’s really been great

Has no real concern for my problems and cannot diagnosis properly. Tries different medications but does not seem to really know what to prescribe. Five minutes is average consultation time after waiting three weeks for an appointment.

He has the worst bedside manner. He made my rare auto immune disorder worse by cutting out the scabs and creating an open wound that I've had for 2 months now. When I went back he debried my wound without numbing even though the nurse had the shot in her hand and didn't even stop when I was crying in pain. I'm now going to a wound clinic and they do for bed what I thought which is you don't want to cut or debried the Wounds I have due to the disorder. I'm in daily pain because of what this man did to me.

Was extremely rude when I wasn't feeling well.

Passman has been my dermatologist for years. He also sees two of my children as patients. He hears your concern from his nurse. He does quickly diagnose. I have never had issues with him failing to address my concerns. However, as a medical professional myself, I can see how using medical terminology might come off as condescending to those unfamiliar with the jargon. I was surprised to read some of the reviews posted here. I am confident in his expertise and often recommend him to friends. I don't find him offensive. He is short and to the point. No need to waste patient's time or his. He is confident in his knowledge, and is quick to say if he doesn't know as well (meaning he can exclude what your primary physician thought it was, but he can't explain the cause because it's not a dermatologic problem as suspected). He doesn't ask patients to schedule follow ups at unnecessarily frequent intervals. Once a problem has been successfully addressed (as determined at a follow up in a few… months) he tends to recommend annual followups just to renew medications and document effectiveness of treatment.

I was just recently referred by my physician to see Dr. Passman to check a lesion on my face that she was concerned may have progressed to basal cell carcinoma. He came into the exam room and briskly asked what the problem was. I began to explain and tried to point out there was a second smaller lesion forming above the bigger one when he cut me off, told me I was making too big of a deal about it and didn't even look at the smaller one. My first thought was I didn't come to his office because I was making a big deal of it; my doctor sent me because she seemed to think it was of concern and important to have it checked out by a specialist. I also am red-headed and fair-skinned so I think I might have just a bit of a reason to be concerned over something my doctor says could be malignant. With him being a dermatologist, you think he would know that pertinent piece of information. After quickly examining the spot, he said and I quote "Well, I'm not exactly saying it's malignant… and I'm not exactly saying it's benign." Then he told me it was Actinic Keratosis. What? From my understanding, AK is a benign pre-cancerous condition so how does that statement fit the diagnosis? No bedside manner at all. He proclaimed he was going to freeze it and and began spraying the lesion. In the process, I could feel bits of the nitrogen solution hitting my closed eye. Don't know if that was necessary as the lesion was above my eyebrow and now for the last three days, my eye has been irritated and slightly oozy ( for lack of a better word). I went home and told my husband and daughter that I thought he was gruff (which is exactly the way someone else described him in a review here). Anyway, I kind of brushed it off, but after reading other negative reviews, I feel validated in my initial impression of him. Oh, and I'm not exactly saying his staff was super rude and I'm not exactly saying they were super friendly. His demeanor pretty much cancelled out anything good about the visit that I rated higher. I am supposed to follow up in two months, but I plan to ask my doctor for a referral to someone else.

He was awful. Rude. Didn't give me any answers to my questions. Refused or ignored my concerns for additional spots on my little 3 year old boy. Acted like he in such a hurry. I was so disappointed. I had to take off work and pay for getting nothing. Do not go to this man. Staff uncaring and rude too. It was an awful experience. And I still need to take care of my baby!!
