Dr. Steven Mark Spitz, MD

After two years of visiting doctors, physical therapists & chiropractors for numbness in my right hand & arm, I realized I would require surgery and went to Dr. Spitz, who performed cervical surgery (ACDF C4-C6) for cervical myelopathy; stenosis. I was very leery of surgery, but Dr. Spitz, assistant Shawnee & all his staff answered all of my questions and totally reassured me. His expertise is exceptional. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of neurosurgery.

I have been under the care of Dr Spitz and his team since my diagnosis in 2019. His professionalism, knowledge, bedside manner is top notch. He and his staff from front desk : Mariah & Michelle, MA Shannon, RA Shawnee and Dr Spitz have always made me feel comfortable and care for. I would recommend this practice and have ~ they are partly responsible for my remission - one of the Best Practices out there!

Last year Dr. Spitz successfully performed a multi-level Cervical fusion and Discectomy on me which gave me relief from pain and dizziness. I also have Cervical Dystonia and I am a high risk for medication side effects. Consequently I was very apprehensive about having the surgery until I met Dr. Spitz who was so willing to listen to my concerns which gave me confidence he was the right Surgeon for me. I knew he was a skilled NeuroSurgeon but he is also a very honest and compassionate Medical Doctor!

I had been to 2 other doctors for very severe pain due to herniated discs. I was all set to go with another doctor for surgery when my primary care physician suggested I go see Dr. Spitz to get another opinion. I am so glad I did that because #1- I felt I was in very good, capable hands with my lumbar laminectomy and #2- I have never worked with a doctor who you felt really cared and truly empathized when you were in pain. I had to make several ER visits after my surgery and when Dr. Spitz found out I was there, he would come to the ER and spend time with me to make sure I was okay and to see what he could to. I would not hesitate for a minute to recommend Dr. Spitz. In a world where so many doctors have lost their compassion and their bedside manner to make patients feel at ease, it is so comforting to know your medical care is in the hands of someone like Dr. Spitz! I am on my way to recovery and I have him to thank.

Excellent Doctor, although my surgery was just last week I am beginning to improve already. Its way too soon to know my long term outcome. But I felt confident with doctor Spitz work. My only complaint is about Southern Maryland Hospital. Since they did not have a spine center I had to have my surgery at Georgetown University Hospital. Doctor said he won't do Major surgery there. Georgetown was great just a hectic drive.
