Dr. Steven Michael Theiss, MD

Dr. Theiss is an excellent surgeon! I suffered two botched surgeries: 1) one causing a spinal collapse, 2) the second wherein the surgeon cut my left vertebral artery causing strokes. Other surgeons did not help me as I presented a risk having only one remaining, functional vertebral artery. After three years of excruciating pain, I was referred to Dr. Theiss who performed successful anterior and posterior fusions on my cervical spine. Dr. Theiss is the best! A highly skilled surgeon, he changed my life! I am extremely grateful to Dr. Theiss.

Hard to express how grateful I am to Dr. Theiss for all that he has done for me. I had a severe case of scoliosis and very close to not having the ability to walk. I was referred to Dr. Theiss by another orthopedic doctor who told me that whatever Dr. Theiss told me to do I would not need a second opinion. I certainly agree. After extensive surgery I am able to lead a very active life that would not have been available to me before the surgery. Just so impressed with Dr. Theiss and his abilities! Would not allow anyone else do the same surgery! Thanks, Dr. Theiss!

Terrible. Was LIED to. Already had a MRI and he didn't understand it. So he "Says" he is going to set up another MRI STAT. That 6 days ago. After calling and getting the run around I finally got someone who looked and he hasn't even signed off on it. In other words for 6 days I've been in the worst pain of my life. When this(I will not call him a doctor. He didn't have any intentions of helping me. But didn't have the balls to tell me.

Dr. Theiss did for me what others couldn't. After a decade plus doing just pain management Dr.Theiss offered me an alternative other surgeons I saw couldn't. With an unstable lower spine and serious pain just to stand and walk I was very limited in my activities and where I could go. I couldn't walk half a block without support without pain folding me up. I'm not quite 5 weeks post surgery and walking a mile a day on the treadmill. It's a new lease on life for me. I'm very happy with every step of the process and the care I received through the entire process. Pre-surgery testing found a serious deficiency and treatment before surgery ensured a positive outcome,I've talked to others that didn't get the same benefit with other docs. I'm thrilled with my results and thank Dr. Theiss,staff and UAB for the excellent treatment I received. (For any concerned my insurance is Medicare/Medicaid...makes no difference)

Dr. Theiss finally diagnosed my herniated disk after 3 years of excruating pain. I went to several other doctors that misdiagnosed me before going to him. It was never suggested I have an MRI until I saw Dr. Theiss. He immediately ordered the MRI, called me with the results and operated on me within 2 weeks. He has been my surgeon for 16 years. He has done 3 surgeries on me since 1996 for different herinations in my lower spine and neck. He referred me to another surgeon for my TOS. He and his wonderful assistant, Cassandra are the best to work with, both are very caring, easy to talk to and listen to you, they treat you as friends and family instead of just a patient. If you have any spinal issues you should see Dr. Theiss. I can not thank both of them enough for what they have done for me.

Dr. Theiss is one of the best spinal surgeons in the southeast. He fixed my back after a serious injury. Can't thank him enough!!!
