Dr. Steven Gary Wager, MD

Really burnt out. Seems depressed himself. Didn’t help and wasn’t inclined to help. Everything he recommended I got worse on. Rolled his eyes constantly at me. Seems like he hates his job. He needs to take some of those samples for himself.

The most competent and ethical of all doctors. Humble and brilliant.

Absolutely no welcoming manner about him.

Did not think he provided adequate care nor was invested in my treatment. I also found him to be inappropriate and unprofessional. There are much better options for psychiatry in NY than Dr. Wager. Would not recommend

Dr. Wager is not doctrinaire, which in his line of work is a very good quality to have since, as he has pointed out, psychopharmacology is still imprecise; nobody has THE answer and there's a certain amount of intuition involved. There's a fine line between really trying to get a handle on how a patient is in the present and what that means vis his or her course of treatment, and just kind of obviously guessing, "throwing the I-ching" and hoping the pills fall the right way. It helps also that he really makes an effort to stay informed, which I think is not necessarily a given in this specialty.

After years of major depression, panic disorder, general and social anxiety, and many therapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists I met Dr. Wager. After a long detailed consultation we began treatment. His extremely thorough knowledge of Pharma and related mental disorders is extraordinary. He keeps copious notes and reviews my progress or setbacks every appointment. His manner and personality is one of calm, unhurried information, and considerable study helped us establish a new regimen of medication that has helped me immeasurably. He is the finest doctor I have had the pleasure of knowing.
