Dr. Steven B Wallach, DO

I have been a patient of Dr Wallach's for over 25 years. I was trying to get my lab paperwork for my Yearly Physical but they kept dropping the ball. I was told Friday that the lab work would be at the lab for me on Monday. Nope, their Office Staff is Horrible. Not sure what happened. They used to be so helpful. I was forced into finding a new Doctor. It would have been no problem if it just happened once, but I called 4 times begging for my lab work. Not how I want to be treated.

I suffer from a plethora of medical problems and I have to see my PCP once a month. I actually look FORWARD to my monthly appointments with Dr. Wallach. I have been a patient for over 10 years and he has always fought to get me the best care possible for my individual medical needs. His office is super clean, the atmosphere is friendly, and I have never had to wait more than 10minutes. Dr. Wallach is incredibly knowledgeable and he's a great listener. He gives me all the time I need to make sure I discuss all my concerns with him, every single month. He never rushes through appointments and I have never left his office feeling disappointed in any way. His nurse, Mary, is literally one of the kindest and most wonderful women I've ever met in my LIFE and she always has lollipops ready when I bring my kids to my appointments. The front desk staff always greets me with the warmest smiles. They are incredibly friendly, never rude. They are so patient, helpful, knowledgeable and these ladies… get things DONE! No waiting days, weeks, months (etc) for pre-authorizations, labs, billing issues, etc. They know their jobs and they perform them well. I just can't say enough things about these wonderful people!!!

I had a miscarriage last week. I have a severe stress disorder and the GI issues that come with it. I recently moved back to tucson and have been going through a financial hardship. I'm well educated and I have extremely strong morals. Since I recieve Medicaid, I am required to get a referral from my PCP to a GI specialist. I found a PCP towards the end of last week. When I called to ask if they except my Medicaid plan, I was surprised by the attitude I received from the lady I spoke to. She said that she needed to see if the doctor would even take me because he only takes in a certain amount of Medicaid recipients. She continued to tell me that it depends on what I would need to be seen for generally. I told her I needed a referral and I would probably just need his services for colds and what not. I thought to myself that she was extremely cold. Then I thought maybe she's like that to everyone and I'm just overly sensitive from dealing with my loss. My appointment was set for today.… Yesterday evening she called me saying how I need to change my PCP with my insurance before today's appointment or the doctor will not see me. Since she informed me after my insurance was closed for the day, I had no choice but to call as soon as I could this morning. My insurance company representitive seemed confused to why I was so panicked to make sure everything was done. The representative said that the company does not have a policy on having my PCP listed on my account. As long as the PCP is in network, they will recieve payment. But I got it done and everything was done as she asked. I made sure to show up 30 minutes early for my appointment to get the new patient paperwork done in time for my appointment. The same lady on the phone was behind the desk, I recognized her voice. Considering she was only one of 2 people who worked there it didn't take much brilliance to figure out who I spoke to. I asked if it was the office policy to have to change my PCP with my Medicaid company, cause I've never had to deal with that before no matter what state I lived in especially Tucson. The lady said ,"No, its Medicaid policy". She was so rude to me and very cold. As I was filling out my paperwork, I couldn't help but notice her pleasant and approachable behavior to a patient who had came in and to the people she was speaking to periodically on the phone. Why did she dislike me so obviously? I was there with my boyfriend and he saw the same thing I did. She treated me as if I was something she stepped in. I had given my boyfriend the finished paperwork and my insurance cards to give the lady at the desk, fearing to feel anymore uncomfortable than I already did. We were the only ones in the very small waiting room. Because of the large amount of stress I've been through lately, I have adopted this hide or flight mentality, afraid of confrontation. Next thing I know she yells out my last name from behind her desk. Which in my opinion was uncalled for. I went to her desk. She said that she could not see that I changed my PCP on the computer. I started to stress again. I told her that it was changed. She became extremely rude and demanded that I call my insurance immediately or I will not be seen. My boyfriend told me that we were leaving cause he was done with her behavior. I told her ,"If you had informed me when I made my appointment last week to change my PCP, it would have been done more efficiently." She said," we have never had that problem before". Which was hard to believe considering what I dealt with. I left and I went home in tears. I called my medicaid company and spoke to a supervisor. The supervisor said that it takes 24-48 hours for the system to update my PCP and it wasn't there policy to change my PCP on my account. He asked me to find out her name so I can add it to the complaint. I called the office and asked her. She refused to tell me. I was being mistreated because I have medicaid and I am considered low income. She treated me as if I was beneath her and to be grateful that the doctor would take me on. They really had no intention on helping me at all.

I have been going to Dr. Steven Wallach now for about 20 years. He has seen me through many things and I would not trade him for any other doctor. Only way I would do that is if he . I love his staff and his nurse Mary. If any one would ask me for a recommendation for a doctor he would be the one I would tell them about.

When it turned out his staff had left one lab test off the lab orders, Dr Wallach abruptly left the room to check if that was true and never returned. He never apologized for the omission and never returned to the consultation room. After waiting for a few minutes alone in the room, I gathered my things and ran into a staffer in the hall who simply handed me the missing lab order. Earlier he lectured about the advantages and disadvantages of a small office vs a large office (his is small) when I had wrongly assumed his office had requested records from my previous doctor. Dr Wallach does only the minimum and let anger and ego undercut his professionalism. I choose no to go to a doctor who allows himself to behave that way.

Half of the times I have seen him he’s not bad (but nowhere near great) and the other half he’s horrible. Doesn’t seem to listen, appears uninterested, doesn’t explain options, his decisions, or provide meaningful information. His RN is awesome and about the only reason I go back.

This doctor told me I am basically a mess. Honest and but true. But really how to treat a person He won't see me. Then walked out without saying goodbye. Confused. I am a leper I guess.

I went to Dr. Steven Wallach for severe back pain that had persisted for 2 weeks, sciatica, left side with tingling & numbness down my left leg. He greeted me, asked my problem, and asked me to stand in front of him facing forward. I told him I was in severe pain & he sat back with his computer, without even feeling or looking at my back, and told me to swim. I said can't you check me out or maybe manipulate my hip a bit, or give me a cortisone injection. He said it's a little premature for that. Go suffer for another week & if it persists, he'll think about an injection. I'm in severe pain & this guy is as useless as nothing.
