Dr. Sujata Somani

I went to Dr. Somani for help with menopause-related sexual dysfunction. She told me that there is no correlation between estrogen therapy and improved sexual function. Instead, she prescribed an anti-depressant even though I told her I am not depressed. The antidepressant made me extremely sick after two days and I discontinued it. I called her office to let her know I was discontinuing it, and asked for different treatment. The nurse called me back and promised that Dr.Somani also would call me, but it's been almost 2 days and I am still waiting. I did some research on my own and found out that there was a study, run by Yale University, that showed a definite link between the use of an estrogen patch and improved sexual function. The study was published a year ago. While I don't expect a garden-variety gynecologist to keep abreast of all research, I do expect a doctor specializing in menopause issues at Mass General to know about it. I'm sorry I wasted the travel time and money to… see this doctor. Someone should also tell her, it's not a given that women with a few extra pounds have poor body image.
