Dr. Susan Cohn Koller, MD

Fifteen years ago we took our 11 year old daughter to Dr. Koller, with the understanding that she was one of the top child and adolescent psychologists in the area. Our daughter was struggling with friendships and was emotionally dysregulated. Dr. Koller’s advice was to have our daughter sit on the end of her bed and stare at the wall until she could calm down after an outburst. Believing that a trained professional was giving a proper therapeutic recommendation, we followed her advice, even though it felt wrong to us. Right now our daughter is 26 and has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, major depressive disorder, OCD, and borderline personality disorder. She is barely functioning, has been hospitalized at least 9 times and is currently not able to live a meaningful life. The outcome would probably have been different if we had been able to obtain skilled psychological therapy for her at the onset of her symptoms. Here’s one life that will never be the same, thanks to poor… mental health care.
