Dr. Susana Ajoy Alfonso, MD

After becoming ill with several very concerning physical symptoms, Dr. Alfonso handed me a counselor's card and told me to "talk about it with someone." Four months later I have daily fevers, swollen and painful lymph nodes in my jaw, neck, and underarms that won't go away, and the same debilitating fatigue and other problems she seemed to think were in my head. My boss gave me an extended sick leave from work, per his own suggestion, due to my very noticeable physical symptoms. I saw another Emory doctor who, after reading her notes told me of my condition, "This is NOT normal, and it's definitely NOT in your head--in case there was any question." Instead of taking it seriously, Dr. Alfonso said that it would help to talk to someone about my symptoms. I told her I would rather find out why my health had suddenly done a 180, and she said "You seem sad." She also was somewhat of an armchair detective, stating multiple times, "I'm not judging you, but I don't understand why you didn't… come in sooner..." I had just gotten insurance, and I tried to come in November, but was made to wait over 2 hours and had to leave for work before even getting to see her. The staff then lost all of my paperwork, and I had to reschedule four subsequent appointments due to scheduling errors (they didn't put me in as a new patient). She also chose not to believe me when I was honest with her and told her I'd recently missed some thyroid medicine doses due to my work schedule. She went so far as to ask what the underlying reason was for not wanting to take my medicine (?) and what made me take it when I remembered. Keep in mind, there is zero history of mental illness, or whatever she was trying to make this into. Had I found any other doctor last fall, I wouldn't be bedridden with (medically verified) worsened symptoms now.

I am so glad i am able to be seen by Dr Alfonso. she is a great doctor specially when it comes to spending time with the patient and explaining her diagnose and treatment, she will go thru the entire list of items a patient has listed in the sheet given before you see her, she will study your background and is very detailed in her exams. Kind , listens to you questions and issues. Thanks Doc

Dr. Alfonso is the best. She listens and treats her patients professionally and kindly.She truly enjoys what she does!
