I was referred to Dr. Dunphy from one of his colleagues, for possible Arthroscopic Surgery on my Right Hip for a torn labrum that was causing me significant pain. After asking me about my problem and what have I done previously for the hip labral, I reported that I have had physical therapy, epidural injections into my hip and medications with no relief. He told me he would not do surgery on my hip to fix the labral tear, because I have arthritis already in my hip. It would make my hip worse and that I would have to live with the pain and just continue doing physical therapy. He never bothered examine me just looked at report of MRI that I had done several weeks previously. I asked then why did his colleague refer me to him, his response was for my opinion. I felt he came into the appointment with his mind already made up that he just wasn’t going to perform surgery because I had some arthritis in my hip. Well if they would have done the surgery when I was first diagnosed in 2017 then… I wouldn’t be having to grin and bear it according to this doctor, but if I wanted to have surgery then there are plenty of other doctors in California.
