Dr. Teresita Yap Nelson

I have had the pleasure of working with many neurologists and psychiatrists and Dr. Nelson stands out as one of the most knowledgeable and committed physicians I have worked with. Her ability to look at the bigger picture and work toward goal(s) and address the child's (not the parent) needs is remarkable. Over 4 years time, she has assisted my son (and family) to become whole. Unlike other physicians, she prescribes medication for symptoms, not disorders. I would absolutely recommend her to any parent/family.

Dr Nelson is the most unkind, uncaring and unprofessional doctor we have ever seen. She is a pediatric neurologist with a shockingly, abrasive bedside manner. It is abundantly clear that her practice is about her, not the patient-- She's got a reputation in Charlotte for this. Because of my daughter's condition, we've seen many, many doctors in the States and abroad, and I've never written a review, but felt it imperative to warn other parents-- Dr Nelson (and her staff) are the worst we've ever had the misfortune of meeting.

Dr. Nelson treated both of my sons for a seizure disorder. She is likable, knowledgeable, and committed. One big, BIG problem though, is that she over-prescribes meds. We moved to Dallas recently and the new neurologist recommended by her, noticed immediately that my 7 year old was drug intoxicated. He took him off his meds and I have my old son back. My other son wasn't drug intoxicated, but was on a very high level of his meds. He was able to change medications and lower the dose on both of them. They are doing so much better. When my new doctor wrote a letter to Dr. Nelson with his concerns about how high a dose she prescribes, she responded that is it safe and in fact she would go even higher! Find a new doctor. She loves lamictal and will just keep increasing it to dangerous levels. The intoxication is so gradual it's hard to notice it's even there. Just find a new doctor. She is arrogant and thinks she's right and will never change her ways. I suspect she also may be… getting kick backs from Lamictal as she's so committed to that one particular med.
