Dr. Terry Michael Mcclanahan, MD

Dr.McClanahan is a cold and uncaring person who is incapable of accepting any feedback from his patients. It's understatement to say it's incredibly disappointing that Kaiser has allowed him to apparently become a supervising psychologist when he clearly lacks empathy, the most basic requirement of any psychologist.

I will start by saying I have experienced extreme, prolonged trauma in my life and have been previously diagnosed with complex ptsd, severe anxiety and depression alongside slight agoraphobia. I know my life stories are overwhelming for some but this was not the case for Dr. McClanahan. He didn’t care to know any of it, instead seemed he assumed I was here for trivial issues. Felt the assumption was generalized anxiety and depression. He was disinterested, cold and gave slim to no guidance whatsoever. He would also interrupt me to interject his immediate opinion on what I was saying often. It seemed as though his primary goal during the appointment was to find someone, anyone, he could schlep me off to. Whether it be my primary care doctor, group counseling, phone apps or online course, it was clear he did not want to try to hear me or help me. Aside from his poor “bedside manor” and complete lack of counseling he gave misinformation about certain medicines and diagnosis. He made me… feel as though my mental health struggles were inconsequential and he forced blame onto work without knowing my history. Seeing Dr. McClanahan was a huge disappointment and waste of time.

Dr McClanahan is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and thorough. I came in complaining of inattention, focus problems, lack of motivation -- he listened to me, then he asked me how much weed I was smoking. At that time I was smoking a couple times every day. He recommended that I stop and see if I got better. I didn't want to stop but I also wanted more in my life.
