Dr. Thomas Victor Bilfinger, MD

Dr Bilfinger came highly recommended and now I highly recommend him also. He is a true Gentleman. He is kind, caring and he has incredible skills. He explained the procedure to me perfectly answered all of my questions without making me feel rushed or uneducated. He is truly respected by all the hospital staff. I was told he treats everyone with with such respect. I witnessed him mentoring a young male nurse that was doing a procedure on me. Doctor B taught him and praised him when finished for doing a great job. Dr. Bilfinger is straight to the point, doesn't sugar coat things, and has a good sense of humor. He made me feel comfortable and I never doubted he was the best Dr. for the job. Dr. B. came to see me everyday I was in the hospital. I did so well that 4 weeks later I was able to fly to Florida for a Universal Studio vacation and walk 7 miles a day and go on most of the rides. Dr. Bilfinger is the man!!! Thank you for everything. Dr Bilfinger has operated on my wife 3 times in the past 20 years. He is a surgeons surgeon. I know for a fact that he is the man that people in the medical field would trust. He is an excellent diagnostician and surgeon. He is direct and to the point. We cannot thank him enough.

He was my doctor for a year. He monitored my "stage 2" lung cancer, in 2013. His partner, Dr Alayas did my biopsy, twice. After a year of testing what was called ground glass opasities in my lungs, one biopsy turned up cancer. I asked what steps to take. He sent me to an oncologist. Oncologist sent me back to him. He suggested surgery. I asked if VAT surgery could be performed. He told me it wasn't done at Stony Brook. The option was to operate by cutting from under my breast around to middle of my back. Break a few ribs to reach the upper spot of cancer. He said the lower spot would be treated with chemo. I thought that was it, asked for my records and went to Sloan Kettering in NY. After reviewing my records, I was given an appointment for two weeks later for VAT surgery. Both cancer spots were removed robotically. I have 3 one inch scars on my left side that have basically vanished. I required no radiation, chemo or medicine. I go for CAT scans at Sloan, twice yearly. I will for… life. So far, I am blessed to have a clean report. Thank god I do my own research. A year later I found out that Stony Brook does do VAT surgery. I will never know why he lied to me, I won't ask. His bedside manner was "none". I found him rude and impatient. I will never forget this and because a friend was with me that day, I will always have proof of my story.

Did not rush us. Answered all questions. Excellent bedside manor. Explained everything to us. Made us very comfortable. His whole team worked together to make an unpleasant situation very comfortable. All appointments were on time an usually left within 30 to 40 minutes after our appointment. Highly recommend him. Very skillfull, experienced and knowledgeable with his field of work. Will not quit until he has answers. God Blessed us with him, and we are great full .

He is Intelligent,Informative,Compassionate..everything you want in a Doctor! :)

Dr. Bilfinger is the best. He performed a wedge resection of my right lung...in an office visit, he told me the cut would be about this big (indicating with his fingers)..and believe it or not, that was the exact measurement...there aren't enough words to describe how much I admire this man...I would recommend him to anyone who needs lung surgery...
