Dr. Thomas Bernard Binder, MD

My children are deathly afraid of shots and Dr. Binder was very patient and there was no hysterics or drama !

Ever since my family and I moved to Avon, we have been seeing Dr. Binder for my three kids. Dr. Binder has been amazing! He is exceptionally good with kids, very patient, makes sure I have an opportunity to ask all my questions, very knowledgeable, and very responsive. He is very practical and is not an alarmist, which is good for an overly neurotic parent like myself. I also really appreciate that he administers vaccines himself. The nurses at the office are all wonderful and very nurturing, and the front desk staff is very friendly and accomodating. We never have a problem getting the kids in for a sick visit on the same day, and if we call with a question or for medical advice, either one of the doctors or the nurses calls back promptly to help us. We couldn't be happier with them!

Hartford Area Pediatrics was nothing but courteous to us as a family until our difference in opinion regarding vaccines created a great divide. The office staff (especially Liz and Ginny) are nothing short of marvelous, and our visits with both Dr. Binder and Dr. Barrows were both very professional and enjoyable. They are excellent at calling you back with any little question you have and never make you feel stupid for asking. The problem is, they recently changed their vaccination policy to try to weed out those on a delay vax or non vax schedule. As a family that initially chose the practice because of their accommodating nature regarding us separating vaccines, we were very surprised to learn that they suddenly expected us to pay an out of pocket fee of $25 per child for every visit we had just for vaccines. We were surprised that changing their policy mid-year after we signed up with them under different pretenses that we would not be grandfathered in and were instructed to… essentially take it or leave it. Many families have left the practice and transferred because of this new policy. This practice is fine for those who plan to vaccinate according to the state's recommendations, but for those who are hesitant and feel more comfortable spacing out vaccines, look elsewhere.

Both Dr. Binder and Dr. Barrows are wonderful! Extremely knowledgable, they are both very down to earth and realistic which I found completely refreshing (and necessary) as a first time mom prone to worrying/overreacting. They call back very quickly (less than 1 hour when I had a question regarding my newborn's cord) and never make you feel like your questions or concerns are dumb or unfounded. I would recommend this practice without reservation to anyone looking for first class care for their child in a friendly and laid back environment.

We raised three children and went to a well known pediatric practice in the Simsbury area. Overall, we were happy with service, but annoyed with the long waits. When we started as Foster parents, we found that the Simsbury practice we had been using did not accept the Husky plan that he Foster Kids were on. We had to find a doctor in the area that did, and that is when we found Dr. Binder. Great Dr. and a great staff. No looking back, I highly recommend Dr. Binder.
