Dr. Thomas Francis Mcgovern, MD

I saw Dr McGovern for a torn rotator cuff. The day that I had the surgery I was sent back with nothing more then an ice pack on my shoulder and ace wrap in a makeshift sling. He told me I didn’t need a sling and after a day and told me he wanted me to start using my arm. He also told me that beginning that night he wanted me to go home and lift my arm all the way up into the air! To me, that didn’t sound right but I wasn’t the dr so I figured he knew what he was doing. That night and for a week afterward, I was in tears doing this. My shoulder would crack going up and I would get stuck going down and it cracked going down. Long story short, 7 months post surgery and now 5 months pregnant, he told me that I needed the surgery again. 2 months post surgery, a co-worker of mine had the SAME EXACT surgery by a different dr. She was told NOT to lift her arm at all until the dr looked at her shoulder 6 weeks later. She also was told to wear a sling and have absolutely NO use of that arm… at all!! To this day, she is fine and has heeled! I also found out from a friend that her brother had this same dr with the same exact results both times and needed a THIRD surgery! Needless to say, he saw a different Dr in Boston and was told that this Dr is a hack and there should not have been any use whatsoever of that arm! He’s also been fine since his 3rd surgery! Needless to say I’m pretty upset and I don’t feel that anyone should EVER see this dr! Not unless they want to have the same exact surgery again!

Dr McGovern and his team are a highly skilled group. I would recommend him to family and friends. He is a five star surgeon who takes the time to listen to you and answer any questions or concerns you have.

Had to have a total revision after 15 months of pain and instability after total knee by Dr McGovern.He and his staff over-medicated me on opioids for an months after initial surgery. After more than a year and still in pain and instability , a skilled orthopaedic surgeon performed a total revision on the same with entirely different and favorable results with hardly any pain meds. Tylenol did the trick after 3 weeks. Am now finding others that are complaining of problems after total knee replacement by Dr Thomas Mcgovern. Advice: Stay the heck away from Exeter Orthopaedics.
