Dr. Thomas Wray Mckee, MD

I am sharing a very concerning experience from our recent visit. While my son, who is African American, was lying sick and weak on my chest, Dr. McKee made a remark comparing my child to an animal. Regardless of intent, the statement was deeply inappropriate and offensive, especially given the historical use of such comparisons toward Black children. My son was vulnerable and in need of compassionate care. Instead, we experienced language that felt disrespectful and racially insensitive. A physician’s role includes providing medical care while also treating patients and families with dignity and professionalism. In this situation, that standard was not met. Healthcare settings should be safe and respectful for all families. This interaction left us feeling hurt and concerned about the level of cultural awareness and professionalism demonstrated during the visit. I am sharing this experience so there is awareness and accountability. Families deserve to feel respected when seeking… medical care for their children.

The best physician in the world. Just excellent clinician and person. The world would be a much better place if we had more people like him.
